@randy @GreenFire
> my hope is that he successfully articulates a vision for the nation

Yeah, that was my hope for the debate last week too. His utter failure to do so drives much of my concern.

@andrew Wait, what? I'm really struggling to wrap my brain around that argument.

You think piling triple the work on an already overworked staff will make things better?

@StableGeniusLib Definitely not the last one. A big part of this decision was that "official acts" should *only* be punishable with impeachment, not with criminal prosecution.
So, impeachment never left the table.

@andrew Hey, I'm all for getting the IRS more manpower.

I just don't see how that's remotely politically possible in the near future.

@sylvia_ritter Maybe "weak art" refers to the uninspired crap made for a corporation on commission.

In that regard, AI will definitely sort it out.

@andrew I'm not entirely opposed to that. My main concern is that you've set your thresholds far too low.

Why not have such quotas, but keep the target above $10M a year? Why do the quotas have to come with a massive increase in quantity of targets?

@andrew
> As above, you're just accepting as read that if you ask them to look at A and B, they'll pay less attention to A than if you only asked them to look at A.

Yes, I am "just accepting" that. It seems to be an immutable law of fixed manpower, does it not? A group of people doing 3 jobs will always be more effective at each job than the same group attempting to do 9 jobs.

@andrew I never said we should give them a pass. I just think the plan you've laid out would make the problem worse, not better.

@garyackerman No, it's still a valid assumption. You just have to ask *whose* life it makes easier and more efficient.

@andrew Right, so you'd triple the work they would have to do which means they wouldn't be able to spend as much time unraveling the webs of the ultra-rich.

To be in the "top 1%", you have to make roughly $600K a year. That's a lot, but it's not Swiss bank account money.

@skyblond Scandinavian rock, in general, is very very good over the past decade or two.

@GreenFire @randy I wish I had the level of trust you do.

At this point, I don't even trust him to win the election.

@SecurityWriter I use GitHub Copilot frequently, but not Windows Copilot.

AI in specific applications is good. AI at the OS level is scary.

Damn, never seen a web browser get milkshake duck’d so fast. I thought the 2026 timeline was enough of a red flag, but yeah no thanks.

@GreenFire @randy I tend to agree, but I would very much like to force the Republicans to say it aloud.

@andrew @law

What? Top 1% is way less than $10m a year. And it's like 3 million people.

Your approach would cause *less* scrutiny to the ultra-rich by spreading it around to the local business owners and such.

Friends, let’s have a conversation about internet comments trolls, and how screwed up they really are. You know the type. Fake name, maybe no photo. Goes after women and queer people.

We probably meet them all the time. They’re probably too cowardly to be anything but acceptably polite in real life. They say hi at the store. They think the internet isn’t as real, and like all bullies they hurt people who they see as good victims or that they’re jealous of to feel better about themselves.

But it’s actually scarier. Let’s break that down. They hurt people to feel better. It’s an emotional rise. It feels good,

You know where else we see that? When they catch a mass shooter or serial killer and look back for signs, and then find they liked to torture small animals, or abused their wife, or hurt their siblings. They enjoyed causing hurt. It made them feel better. Then it escalated.

You say this is a logical leap or too extreme. Trolling is harmless. I’m crazy. It’s not you. You’re just having fun. But I gotta tell you, I don’t enjoy causing victims pain. I retired from the military. I hunt, shoot, fight, play video games. That’s still not in me. You might want to talk to someone if that’s you.

@maya_b @annmlipton It does seem strange that it was legal for the insurance company to take her money and write her a policy that they could never pay out on.

If they could determine she wasn't the owner at time of claim, couldn't they make that determination at time of signing?

@randy @GreenFire You both make good points. I could never get behind Biden using these powers to harm anyone or make permanent changes.

However, "disruptive" was a good word choice.

And if a little disruption now can prevent a lot of violence later, then I think that's the right thing to do.
