Hear me out: If you are programming something with the intention to evoke a specific feeling or express an idea, you are an artist.
I don't like how programmers are often left outside of creative discussion.
For 2 decades there was not a single art file in dwarf fortress and i will fight whatever who tells me there is not artistic intention there since the beginning.
Programming is a tool. Game programmers use that tool to create... The game.

Oh, hi, neighbor!
@TonyStark On the side of the road in a box?!? That's crazy!
When I was looking for my pup, even mutt puppies were going for $2-400!
@volkris Why, though? The CDA basically doesn't exist anymore. That's like asking somebody about the League of Nations to gauge their knowledge of the UN.
Imo, the better question is: "What line do you think S230 draws between platforms and publishers?" Then, when they respond, you can point out that the word "platform" never appears in the law.
@levisan I suppose that depends on whether the kid will be dragging Hobbes along, or whether you will be the Hobbes to his Calvin.
Oh this is great news for Vans and GA!

@fakertarians Idk, sounds kind of juvenile for ChatGPT.
@alice I've always considered them separate...
Transgender seems like more of a journey, often involving meds and sometimes surgery, in the goal of making one's sex match one's gender.
Non-binary, otoh, usually eschews all of that and completely ignores sex for a blended gender.
There are definitely similarities, and what I described above is far from clear-cut lines, but there are enough differences to necessitate a second category, imo.
Making it acceptable to kill someone with different politics is not anything like the rule of law. If you follow this policy to its logical conclusion, it doesn't go anywhere good.
"Currently, experimental studies should not be used to support the conclusion that social media use is associated with mental health. Taken at surface value, mean effect sizes are no different from zero. Put very directly, this undermines causal claims by some scholars (e.g., Haidt, 2020; Twenge, 2020) that reductions in social media time would improve adolescent mental health."

@ThinkingSapien Pretty sure it's mostly nonsense. I mean, sure, theft happens. But the media seem to be obsessed with shoplifters and squatters right now, so they're going out of their way to get footage.
Kind of like how Boeing had one big failure (where nobody got hurt) and then the media covered every other little thing they normally wouldn't even notice and now people are scared to fly on Boeing planes.
@davidho Ugh, why does that word have more than one valid meaning? Now I have some really gross pictures in my head.
@jpaskaruk Nonsense. Wikipedia is one of the biggest beneficiaries of Section 230.
Moreover, S230 protects Mastodon admins from being liable for the content of their users' speech. How many admins would still run their instance if they could be sued for dumb shit their users said?
@dreks @jeffjarvis I disagree that it's only "political posturing". Having more minorities in leadership positions is one of the most effective ways we currently have of dismantling the systemic bias that exists throughout our justice system.
Trump's picks for SCOTUS justices weren't political posturing... They were furthering an agenda.
I see no reason not to believe the same of Biden's picks.
@dreks @jeffjarvis If the intent of the appointments was to antagonize, I'd agree with you. But, as the antagonization is a byproduct, those who feel antagonized need to suck it up and deal with it. We have no obligation to cater to their uncivilized ways to avoid angering them.
@dreks @jeffjarvis Then replace "black" in my previous post with "minority". The point still stands.
Your "logical reasoning" is the same kind that was used to advocate for keeping slavery legal to avoid a civil war.
The moment we allow the threats of bigots to control our decision-making is the very same moment that their terrorism becomes successful. The last thing we should be doing is empowering them with success.
@dreks @jeffjarvis So, "because there are potentially bad white people who might commit violence, we should not give good jobs to good black people."
Do I have that right?
@dreks @jeffjarvis How does having minorities over-represented in the leadership of our judicial system "create more problems" exactly?
