@LouisIngenthron

If I'm installing a minium system, like a headless server, I certainly don't want all that extra GUI code executing during my install.

@pwinn

I wonder what all those idle hands will do?

@krrw

You mean the week seems five days longer when you are working than when you are not working? 🙂

@DavidDvorkin

Yes, if you delete/re-edit then it's like a new toot and any favs, boosts, and replies get lost (the replies just get dumped back into the public timeline).

If I've only had someone favorite the toot and no other interaction, then I don't worry so much about re-doing it to fix something, but if people have replied then I will just let it go or put a correction in the thread when the typo causes ambiguity or confusion, or if something else has to be addressed with the toot.

Just a reminder...

More people died this past week in the US from COVID-19 than died in the 9/11 attacks.

Please wear your respirator when you are in public.

@SETIEric

I don't understand this poll. Do you want us to guess what is likely to be in the box that is a threat, or do you want us to say what is the greatest threat assuming it is in the box?

Or was it just rhetorical?

@DavidDvorkin

It took a second or two, but I figured out what you were trying to say anyway. 🙂

If you want to edit a toot, click the 3-dot ellipsis thingy below the toot and to the right, then click "Delete and re-draft". (You need to open the toot in the web to see that thingy.)

This statement is true. Burkina Faso is only 38 years old.

However, Burkina Faso is a country in Africa. The woman pictured in this TruthBeTold is actually Agatha Barbara, the first woman president of Malta. (The Republic of Upper Volta was renamed Burkina Faso in 1984.)

Believe it or not, but Burkina Faso is only 38 years old.

@admitsWrongIfProven

I keep seeing people tooting out crap blaming capitalism for all of the world's woes. I'm tooting out things that capitalism has actually done to help society.

@joeinwynnewood @stux

I think your point was that guns were (are) used to oppress.

My point was that guns help keep people free, when everyone has an equal right to possess them.

Most people who want to prohibit the right to possess guns are selective as to who can keep them. They believe that police or military can keep guns while ordinary citizens cannot. This is a recipe for oppression.

@johnabs

>"P.S. Sorry if that came off as a bit curt..."

Not at all. I like to write concisely also.

(Sometimes I will just favorite someone's toot rather than reply when I don't have time at the moment to do a full reply, or just to let them know that I've read their toot.)

@johnabs

I like this. I tried to find a word for this and couldn't. I thought of "alternatives", but that's not it -- I think what you are describing is actually "characteristics of alternatives" which is different. I also found "differential", and "differentia" which refer to the characteristic of the difference between alternatives.

The ambiatives of your new word are: 1) It's only one word rather than three; 2) It's four syllables instead of three (differential to pros and cons) -- but it's fewer syllables than "positives and negatives".

Now you just need to get someone with some influence to use it in an article or something.

(I also checked it in German -- the Germans have a word for everything -- but I couldn't find anything like this.)

TruthBeTold Spoiler

****TruthBeTold Spoiler*****

Did you figure this one out?

The assertion that more people are becoming restive about Putin’s wealth appears to be a true statement based on news reports. (Putin has spent his entire career as a public servant, yet has amassed a large fortune).

The deceptive part of this TruthBeTold is the picture – it shows President Biden’s mansion, not Putin’s. (Biden has been a public servant for his entire career and throughout his time in government he has claimed that he was the poorest guy in Congress).
