@jamesrandall It takes time to listen to the wide, open spaces. A work of art to simply savor.

The opening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond still gives me goosebumps to this day. Wonderful.

@Pantangelini The thing I hate? I hate intellectual dishonesty. Where am I exhibiting that? Intellectual honestly is where you clearly state where I am wrong in my facts or I am wrong in my logic. Where have you shown either?

@Lars Except put a GoPro in hand for a selfie 🤳! I'm happy they added the camera to the panel extension. One hell of a selfie stick!

@fisherstudio @mcdutchie @JeremyLittau And watch as the one you like is targeted with lies and misinformation into isolation for not being isolationist enough and other instances are badgered to block lest they also become targets of lies and misinformation. Kinda neat how that works, isn't it @freemo?

@JeremyLittau Admins deciding what is "safe" for their users (which is very unsafe, by the way) is what creates silos. If a site's admins habitually defederate sites they don't like, then a silo is the result, by definition.

weirder.earth is an example of a Mastodon site that turned into a silo. They block so many peers, some of their users now can't connect to most of their friends.

This is why I believe blocking should be done at the user level only, with the help of opt-in blocklists.

@theidealistic1 I'm navigating both, but I find it easier to communicate thoughtfully here. And the MAGA filter, while it isn't perfect, works rather well on the whole. Some of the responses on that thread were "Mastodon How?" I'd answer, but I have an audio book to listen to with my wife and then off to sleep. I still don't have @AtheistIntelli2, but I hope to find & follow.

@theidealistic1 Howdy! I look forward to seeing you continue here. :)

@leahmcelrath I'd want to say something supportive and encouraging to you, but I know you don't really need that. Sometimes I find it helps when I see what I'm thinking in text, even if I'm pretty sure nobody else will understand or care. You already know what you value, and you give value where it is due. You can be sure you do *NOT* need to give that value where it isn't there for you.

Be Beautiful You!

American Pandemic Response & Religion

@Pantangelini There's a point to responding to a rational discussion with a random non-sequitur? Do tell!

American Pandemic Religious Response

@Pantangelini @torq @freemo So... you are one who knows about "issues," eh? Church helps you that much?

@Pantangelini So you say, person who responds to a reasonable statement with, "Sounds like you got vaxed!"

@Coyote

Uhm... wow. Pertaining to @freemo's situation, he is caught in the crossfire between one group who insists their freedom to speak includes spreading hate, lies, and misinformation to attack a group they don't like who is known for insisting their freedom to speak includes spreading hate, lies, and misinformation to attack a group *THEY* don't like.

BOTH groups insist if you don't limit speech to the speech *THEY* promote, you are obviously the enemy and subject to the spread of hate, lies, and information.

Now all that text of yours is nice, and it may be appropriate in a courtroom or civics course. But in the case of QOTO.ORG, the domain turns up an IP "not within the US" while being caught in the crossfire between two very pissed off US groups at ideological war.

And right now my "freedom of speech" concern is QOTO.ORG staying alive for me to enjoy what appears to be the most sane instance among so much ugliness and hate.

Now if you'd care to explain how to get a group insisting "freedom of speech only covers speech they will permit" to take a more rational view of reality, I'd be very interested in that. Otherwise, @legaleagle covers questions I'd have on the topic just fine in terms of US and state law as it applies to the legal topics of the day.

Since you respond to rational discussion using evidence with that little gem of a non-sequitur, you are hardly in any position to discuss fallacies, don't you think?

I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.

It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.

It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.

Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.

@freemo Yup! I did sysadmin. It doesn't end. :(

@Hyolobrika

youtu.be/YI5orKCzz58 by @legaleagle covers some of the Alex Jones business, and he has another video he did on the topic before that one. "Freedom of speech" is touched on in various areas as it comes up.
