@badibulgator You found me! Although given my bird site handle, that's the point. 😉

@freemo said I was welcome on qoto.org as a STEM enthusiast, so long as I wasn't some flat-earther or something. 🤣

I have not found any in the Fediverse, although I'm sure they are here. I do need to spend time here voicing concerns I have on the larger picture where I fit into it.

Anyway, good to see you here!

Thank you sir! That's really interesting; I'll look at the numbers here in a minute. 🙏

Thats like saying "fewer vaccines means fewer vaccine death", while technically true its also very poor logic. Sadly no, banning guns generally means more homicides overall.

Also who said anything about Canada. Sadly the body of the american data on this clearly disagrees with the assesment.

@AndyLowry

Quite a few I've read about and even did studies on myself.

You can find 4 images showing this across 4 countries as an example here: qoto.org/@freemo/1037666922745

I can share many more examples if you'd like.. in fact the vast majority, with just a few exceptions of countries which banned guns show pretty much the same pattern.

But the real point here is that one of my favorite fight scenes can be scrubbed to on Netflix. I've watched it twice already today.

KING KONG (2005) beginning at the 1:42:00 mark.

#2, comprehensibility (and having the choreography make sense) depends a lot on your game system. I've found that finding a way to lean into cinematic descriptions can help a bit. "Tell me what a critical failure looks like" is a nice place for a GM to start. Critical success, too, once players have earned it.

Here on dice.camp we may be thinking about RPG fights, and how to make players care about what's going on. Well... if the story supports "and now there's a fight" correctly, #1 and #3 will take care of themselves.

KING KONG (2005) is now available on Netflix. The portrayal of Skull Island's natives is racist and awful, but the Kong vs Tyrannosaur fight can be scrubbed to. It begins at 1:42:00, and it's one of my all-time favorite fight scenes.

It's awesome not just because Monkey vs Lizard (okay, not monkey, not lizard, hush you) but because it does what a good fight scene must do

1) Move the plot forward and advance the character stories
2) Be comprehensible
3) Make us care about what happens

Hi Mastodon! I built a random comic generator that makes horrible comics about therapy. It's NSFW and, well .. horrible. If you generate a good one, post it in the comments.

I'm considering turning this into a card game, similar to Cards Against Humanity, What Do You meme, Joking. Hazard, etc. Does this sound interesting to anyone? I'm collecting emails to see if there's enough interest. There's a signup form on the bottom of this page: theoatmeal.com/therapist

I follow a comic, "Urgent Transformation Crisis." A new one is posted if you happen to follow the same comic. I'll try to do notices of updates when *I* notice they come out.

Is there a good hashtag for these sorts of things for those looking for it?

Tilly had a pile of blankets next to the bed on my side. While I was asleep, I don't think there was digging. She seemed to nest inside the blankets and went to sleep. As a "guess" I think she was telling us she wanted to bed on my side rather than in the pillow/ pillowcase "sleeping bag" she had on my wife's side. My side is more open and closer to the door, so it isn't necessarily "me" but the strategic position. That would explain the digging. She was trying to "nest" in carpet that doesn't do "nesting."

When I woke up, she didn't stir but sometime in the morning she came out to be with me. She's currently in an "ottoman" which serves as a small pet bed. We have a blanket over the top both to keep the inside warm and for her "privacy." She can peek out, but we can't see in. At the moment, she's there.

Listening to a dog is *NOT* "Dr. Doolittle." It takes time to grasp and even now I'm not clear what she's telling us. But it's rewarding of its own right to put the pieces together and hear her "voice" by actions and context.

I'd prefer we *not* have to use anti-anxiety meds. I'm not morally opposed to them, but a) all medical interventions have some consequences and risks... that's life. And b) If we can alleviate the distress, THAT is the problem to be solved, not some 'magic' pill that does not require effort on our part.

So here we are, and thank you for your interaction.

@planet4589

Strictly reprehensible.

BTW, why is Jerry Springer trending? >:)

@freemo

I take it this is free? Good enough to fit under, "lies we tell children" accuracy? Oh, and of course I would have to be sure a child understood "lies we tell children" with examples until I'm told, "Shut up! Please just lie to me. I get it!"

My server mates, including @mikmaqpeek, already know that one and the peril of asking me questions.

But just knowing these "toys" exist means so much to me!

Romaq boosted

@Romaq Its a nice little toy to play with for sure.. doesnt really do well in comparison to more professional simulators of course. But the approach to visualization is still very useful in its own right.

@JuliusGoat They are not supposed to be seated by given their sedition. The entire congress appears to be ignoring the 14th ammendment, section 3. So what law requires penalty for congress violating its oath to uphold the US Constitution and their own laws? This whole thing is absurd beyond absurd!

@freemo So... a website that lets you build a circuit diagram and then simulates the circuits including oscilloscope output? That's freakin' crazy! My dad would have thought he died and gone to heaven. Except, well, he DID die, but he worked for Howard W. Sams and likely could see it coming someday.

Ah, the tools with which I would torment question asking curious children if we had them! Only I'd actually spend time with my kid and encourage finding and discovering answers. I see tools like this with the wonder of memories so long ago of my dad's tools to do this for real with a bread board.

@Pat

I did try talking with Tilly on the floor. I go to sleep earlier. I have to be at work by 5 am (aka OH MY GOD IT'S DARK OUTSIDE!). Tilly refused to go to bed with @mikmaqpeek in any of the usual spots: between us in the people bed, a pillow on Mik's side as a sleeping bag, a cat bed nearby with a cover, or the closet where Freddy slept in a basket with Mik's Freddy-scented jacket. Instead, Tilly dug on the carpet. As mentioned, this is unusual behavior for her and may be displacement behavior.

When I went to the floor to "talk" with Tilly, she kept staring at her tail, always in the same position after she moved, as if embarrassed to look at me. We will take a look in the morning, and a vet visit will check health issues as we discuss anxiety meds for her. Tilly accepted scritches, but no cuddles. Mik put the blanket over me to sleep on the floor, but then Tilly began to "nest" on the blanket. She refused to crawl into it, instead focused on nesting. No cuddles.

Tilly kept this up until persuaded to go into bed with Mik while I was on the floor. I cautiously tried to come to bed too, but Tilly would have none of that. She went back down to the blanket to sit and stare into the distance. Eventually she laid down, as seen in the photo. I think she dug her way into the blanket, but I'm not going to disturb her just yet. All I would do is lay on the floor and offer gentle skritches if she's there or where I can reach her.

We have a queen bed, but my guess is Tilly finds it too small for the three of us. She used to complain from Frisco (Freddy's buddy housecat) stomping all over her (and us) without a care. So Mik and I will keep watch, offering love without being pushy, watch for "bum" issues or licking, butt dragging behavior, but we don't think that's it. Be there, provide comfort if she's cowering, and get the vet appointment. Best we can do.
