@SamuelBepis @freemo @Darkayne FWIW, I've been on QOTO a month now and haven't seen any race science or bigotry. The few moderation decisions I've seen have been thoughtful and nuanced.
@freemo isn't always the best at clearly communicating his intentions, but from everything I've seen so far, his heart appears to be in the right place.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I never felt anything less than welcomed on QOTO. And, if I had to describe the tone of my Local feed here, it's mostly STEM-related material, but of the few political-or-politics-adjacent posts I see, the vast majority seem to be left-leaning.

I don't know where this dramatic characterization of QOTO being a hive of right-wing disinfo and bigotry comes from, but it really doesn't seem to have any basis in reality.

Posting and involvement requires motivation, enthusiasm. I'm kinda tapped at the moment. It will help when I'm finally in Canada with @mikmaqpeek.

I wrote a story for a friend - by @JulianGough@twitter.com buff.ly/3Pb5VAH The story behind the #Minecraft #EndPoem. Long, emotional, fascinating.

When I hear about the coup attempt in Germany & the desire of these violent extremists to insert Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss as the leader after a planned execution of the German chancellor, it sounds ludicrous, laughable. But that's the thing: These people are deadly serious.

Because the plots of these anti-democratic extremists often seem so ludicrous, they can succeed because the public--& too many leaders--don't take them seriously enough. This tendency is how Trump got as far as he did.

Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people.

A cryptobro DMed me to ask if I wanted to join his mailing list.

I spent slightly too long making this to send in reply.

@torq I went through this just recently.. I was getting severely depressed and couldnt figure out why.

Turns out it was a combination of B12 defiency and D defiency.

I realized it because i spent a day out in the sun and felt suprisingly better.. then when i went on supplements I was cured within a week and it never came back.. it was an issue for months.

Cant hurt to take a supplement and see. I highly recommend throwing in some B12 too just to make sure.

I had a melanoma removed from my arm a while ago.

I display common symptoms of Depression.

I usually sleep during the day.

Today, it occurred to me that my symptoms might be of a vitamin D deficiency.

That would mean that when I get Sun, it tries to kill me and when I don't get Sun, it makes me want to kill myself.

I laughed at this for a good 3 minutes straight today.

The Holocaust did not begin with killing; it began with words.

Genocides do not start with mass murder. That's where they end up.

Genocides & other mass atrocity crimes begin with words - specifically, with powerful people dehumanizing a minority.

Once they are seen as less than human, anything is possible, even mass murder.

SIDEBAR: If you've ever taken a collection of RPG tables and then rolled some dice to create a scenario, you've played the same sort of "game" that lots of people currently play with AI art generators.

You feed some data into a system and find out what emerges. It's fun!

Some AI Art thoughts:

1st and foremost, it's not going away. We can litigate and legislate to protect human careers, but the robo-genie is out of the magnetic bottle.

@Romaq @PeterStefanovic This will need a majority of non-liars, or a rule to be adopted at one point that creates an advantage to liars that sets the default vote to approval.

In 1925, Dr. Cecilia Payne completed her PhD thesis, described as “the most brilliant ever written in astronomy.” At a time when few #women entered academia, Payne discovered what the universe is made of. Her work began a revolution in astrophysics.

Dr. Payne-Gaposchkin became the 1st female professor & 1st female department chair at Harvard. Given most of us remember names like Darwin & Newton, we should also celebrate Payne. #science #space
