@tomosaigon idk how to answer your question, can you?
Doesn't look like a waste to as its doing its job, crunching through the work.
Can I do it in a more efficient way? I always assume that yes, I could, but I don't have any cloud power to use... if you have ideas let me know
I've never done this before, but I set up a spare laptop to donate computing power to research. I used #FAH (foldingathome.org)
Does anyone do this and have some insights and opinion on the best way to do it?
I've seen also BOINC is good and let you choose what to donate to, but I've no time atm to get deeper into it.
Anyway, in case you are not a tech, it was dead easy and it took me literally 5 minutes while drinking an orange juice.
@galacticstone I like your life
Yeah the main advantage of the debian repo is that there is a lot of stuff in them that will not fuck up your computer (if you use stable, that is). Downside is that is often terribly outdated, like years behind, but for that software you can oftentimes just add their repo and go from there.
In the end is a matter of personal tastes. I am looking for something solid that gets out of my way while I do my work and that is reliable and fast.
#Arch is an excellent OS, and community is great
yeah I'm very devote to debian, mostly because if something breaks I already know where to check and how to fix it, usually. But thanks for the tips!
What OS do you use?
@hrisskar mind you, I'm not archeologist or paleoanthropologist, so that's just on the top of my mind and with a limited expertise in the field.
Since we started to produce composite artifacts, that's for example a blade held by a handle (which could be a bone, a piece of wood...) well all those handles were penis shaped. Big bones, stuff to crush stuff, and so on were mostly penis shaped.
And, also, we had penises, like, actual penises in stone and such, but as far as we know they were used for devotional, religious, spiritual stuff and the like.
It may be a matter as you say of what do you perceive, as a man or a woman, but there are quite a few women in the field and I tell you, a scientist formed as a naturalist, geologist just collects the clue and gather them at the best of his/her ability. I know it's still very much a guessing field, and hard proof is hard to bring, that is why you should be very careful in proposing new stuff.
@hrisskar idk know man, the title is misleading: she is not an academic. She never published any study and her only argument for 30k yo sex toys is that a penis shaped object is unlikely to shape a flint?
Even if it was a penis, which is unlikely, she seem too sure of herself saying "surely was a sex toy", as if that is the most common usage for penis-shaped objects. Which is not.
@Wetrix Looks a lot like when my ex girlfriend dumped me
I'm not sure I like having people in the house, it makes me quite self conscious about stuff that alone would feel just like normal.
I was standing in my underwear eating warm unsalted popcorn, one by one, looking at that nice big cup full of them, and my sister came in the kitchen.
What was a nice moment of me thinking about how to improve my popcorn and what to make of the day turned into having to explain what I was doing and aggressively stating "now that's **my** kitchen and if I like to hang hair on the fridge I'll just do that."
Just couple more days, then she'll be off.
@hrisskar no way, I'm too used to debian... dist-upgrade is a pain, but for the rest I feel at home here =D
@strypey well, it's quite a long video to show... It'd be quicker to just show an xfce desktop =D
Now, that's an interesting #psychology study.
A proposal to classify happiness as a psychiatric disorder.
DM me if you want the PDF and don't have access to ResearchGate or anything
Watching my tty doing the dist-upgrade, and getting excited when it asks me something like what my keymap should be because it feels like a high point of someone caring for my opinion in the past month or so.
Meanwhile, playing the #banjo, stuffed with a pijama in the drum, because if I feel dull and plain I don't see why it should sound any different.
Thanks mastodon, this low point in my life is no longer undocumented
seems like #covid has arrived in my city too (Naples). One unconfirmed case, University closed for a few days, people buying tons of canned food and stuff to self-quarantine themselves at home.
Still, no one is buying pasta liscia, at least that's what they say.
