@Absinthe fair call, but I’m already vaccinated, so doesn’t that mitigate the risk? My immune system already produces the antibodies.
@freemo well it would be an interesting trial. I have no idea if QOTO needs tor, I was just curious if you’d looked at setting up any of your sites as hidden services.
@freemo yes
@freemo thank you for all the stuff, it's very kind of you! Mastodon, Forum, Audio, Video, Gitlab and Gitlab Pages. Oh and NextCloud too. Do any of these services have an onion?
@design_RG depends on the chemical. I wanted to add more options to the poll but it wouldn’t let me. Other option was going to be put up your hand and wait or Evacuate lab. I probably should have included something to do with eyewash in retrospect??
@pganssle it sounds like you are operating with responsible network health and hygiene IMO. The only way your STD comparison works though, is if sex involved thousands or millions of people all copulating together in some kind of open-free-webscale-orgy. To me STD risk is exponentially lower than the network breach risk, but the infection is also much nastier and less desirable. 😆
I sometimes think I'm overly worried about exposing services on my home network to the internet. I've had #syncthing configured to be LAN-only since I installed it, and the only service I run on the open internet is the VPN so I can get access to my system remotely.
Have I been fooled by the internet equivalent of health class scare tactics where any sort of sexual activity = instant STDs and pregnancy?
Life on earth will go on without us, but we are the custodians and guardians of something very special and unique in terms of conscious intelligence. I believe it is therefore our duty to protect that unique feature of life and carry it forward into the unknown. As a species we need to leave earth, we need to take life and our consciousness of it beyond our solar system in order to protect it from the time relative constraints that would eventually undermine it here on earth.
My idea is that you should always focus on solving the current problems that block humanity from progressing in the ultimate goal of protecting and nurturing life and carrying it beyond earth and throughout the universe.
You can't solve colonialism, climate change, capitalism, pseudo-democracy, it's too late for that, but you can work towards building knowledge that will enable the next generation of children to further develop and explore and successfully leave earth.
My main focus will be biological/molecular computing, harnessing bioenergy and assistive biotech for space travel.
This week, astronomers on the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, had their viewing disrupted by 19 Starlink satellites, part of a batch launched earlier this month. Clarae Martínez-Vázquez, an astronomer, tweeted: “Rather depressing … This is not cool.”
@zevahs what are you ideas?
Speciation is transient. Eukaryotic DNA is a database of junk, most of it from previous species in our evolutionary path. If one species is prolific, at some stage it will be in population overshoot and it’s very natural what happens next. Don’t forget the environment naturally selected for, and invented sonar, flight, eyesight, opposable thumbs, intelligence. Providing we don’t wipe out eukaryotes, everything is going to be ok.
@freemo true. Graceful voices are not a prerequisite of mine, but honestly I don't think too many of us would do much better in that environment. Such a fantastic video. I love that man.

Achondroplasia
An autosomal dominant pattern which causes a form of short limbed dwarfism, literal meaning "without cartilage formation".
People with achondroplasia have inherited an altered FGFR3 gene from at least one of their parents. 50% of their children will carry the allele responsible for the disease.
@design_RG they are exquisite drawings. Robert Hooke must have been beside himself when seeing all those details for the first time through his own hand ground lenses. If for nothing else, the internet has served a purpose in storing record of his work.

Next time you visit New Zealand, remember you are actually visiting Zealandia / New Zealand, the great submerged continent is like the Gnu to New Zealand's Linux.
