Hello, everyone. Time to update my #introduction. I'm a #biostatistician with a PhD in psychology and I program with #rstats. I spent many years working in #Alzheimer disease research, with brief detours into medical #education and #clinicaltrials data monitoring, and now work in #nursing research.

In my spare time, I enjoy #cycling (slowly), #birding (inexpertly), and serving as a board member at EAGLE School.

Do you work in tech? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to organize your workplace?

I am always happy to talk to people - friends, acquaintances, strangers - about what's involved in worker organizing. Also happy to connect people to friends who have organized their workplaces or who work as organizers at unions.

Not everyone with these skills and connections can afford to be so vocal, but I can! I'm self-employed and my boss (me) is super pro union. ;)

So hit me up if you're curious.

Hi new followers, if you’re looking for dry “professional” content, I’m going to disappoint.

Generally, I am grumpy about bigotries and structural harm, words meaning things, and things that seem like thoughtlessness to me.

Sometimes I’m funny, but not as frequently as I shitpost.

Niceness and kindness aren’t the same to me; I aspire to the latter but not the former.

I’m pretty reliably a killjoy (I try to kill the right joy).

If you’re here for a series of peer reviewed lit toots, bummer.

“Starting in January, California will become the first US state to enact a ban on parking minimums, halting their use in areas with public transport in a move that Governor Gavin Newsom called a “win-win” for reducing planet-heating emissions from cars, as well as helping alleviate the lack of affordable housing in a state that has lagged in building new dwellings.” Via @Wired #ThePowerOfParking wired.com/story/us-cities-are-

Fun facts about masks:
They're inexpensive compared to getting sick.
They're a minor inconvenience.
They protect you from #COVID19 PLUS other viruses.
If you're ill and don't know, your mask protects people around you.
If more people wore them, we'd not only prevent death and disability, we'd also limit the mutation of COVID.
If you're worried about your privacy, masks also make it more difficult for facial recognition software to track your movement.
#WearAMask - It's a win-win-win-win-win.

thinking about JK Rowling ripping off many other, better books for her series got me remembering just HOW MUCH she stole off the excellent Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci series

What if #RoeVWade was not overturned last year? A judge in DC is considering the question and says the right is protected under the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery.

Don't be an ageist prescriber when it comes to #flozins. They work equally well in older v.s. younger individuals for all outcomes (Heart Failure - HHF, Major cardiovascular events - MACE, or composite cardiac/renal -CRC)

Making Satanic Eggs for Turkey Day. I leave out mustard & just mix mayo & yolks. In some I add green onions or BBQ sauce between the mixed yolk & white & top w/Hungarian paprika. I might put cheese in some this year. I'm a kitchen rebel. Follow me for more recipes. #Cooking

New server so now seems like a good time for introductions. After 14.5 years on that other site, it feels odd to start over.

I lead technical teams by day, I read transit reports by night, and I curl on the weekends.

I’m a #computers #transit #elections #publichealth nerd, an amateur contributor to #curling #cycling #politics #cities #urbanism #sustainability, and a #science #data #democracy #lgbtq #gaydad #publictransit #equity advocate.

We aren't here on Mastodon yet but working on it. @CanJKHD at the other place.

@Kidney_boy @MGKatz036 arguably livers are way more scarce than kidneys - you are going to transplant only the fittest people - which is the third argument to consider here @mike_johansen (less important for kidneys I guess)
