Here is a splendid shot of #electronicmusic #pioneer Daphne Oram working her tape machines at the #BBC Studios in the early 1960s (and yes, Delia Derbyshire is also going to get the treatment!)

This #colorized picture is a part of an #ongoing series of pictures of #unsungheroes of 20th Century music, refreshed and reprocessed at high resolution for a more lifelike appearance.

Anyone read "Human Compatible"? It's on my 2023 list but is it worth my time? I am a slow reader.

The Medium news is cool but it's already being misrepresented as though they brought Medium into Fediverse compliance. They have not. They set up an instance of Mastodon -- same has thousands of other users have. That's important because if they *did* decide to make Medium ActivityPub compliant, like PixelFed, FunkWhale etc. that would be HUGE news.

Elon right now: "There's a Singapore office? Why didn't anyone tell me!"

"Sir, you fired the local Asia rep."

Me at the office: "Hi, have you got a moment to talk about our lord and saviour, Semantic Web?"

If someone purchased a self-help book called "Overcoming Perfectionism" -- isn't that an indicator of a sort of narcism?

A scientist behind an actual science-based research program into Happiness weighs in on what they've determined so far about what makes us happy. SPOILER: There are no surprises.

The Banshees of Inisherin: Great movie -- very entertaining, moving and with great performances. But what are the writer and director trying to say? If there's a message, I am not sure I received it.

Our IPA Will Jam Your Face with Hops - McSweeney’s Internet Tendency

"...perhaps you don’t have the guts to drink an octuple-IPA that’s caustic grains are mashed over actual lava sourced from Ethiopia’s Erta Ale volcano while loudspeakers crank out Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” on a loop inside an abandoned underground nuclear testing site."

I've asked this before but never got an answer I liked. How do you read RSS feeds in 2023?

In "Social Quitting," my latest *Locus Magazine* column, I advance a theory to explain the precipitous #VibeShift in how many of us view the once-dominant social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter, and how it is that we have so quickly gone asking what we can do to get these services out of our lives to where we should go now that we're all ready to leave them:

Are you a person who was around in, or knows a lot about, 1970s/1980s fandoms? I'm working on a project about spoilers and want to learn more about early uses of the term in its modern sense. I'm reading Usenet archives; do you have memories of earlier emergent uses? Please share! Non-fandom memories and leads also welcome, of course.

Oddisee's rap + Bon Iver's "Stacks" and Aretha Franklin's "Say a Little Prayer". Apparently he couldn't clear the samples and it never got officially released but, through the magic of the internet, we can still appreciate what might have been.

M3gan was great. It says a lot about where we are that the state of AI is terrifying enough without even needing any supernatural nonsense. Stellar writing, timely theme and laugh-out-loud humour.
