@rastinza I use it moderately so far. It’s fun to see the content racing. I also think it’s a good tool for discovering interesting posts and people.

Fediverse tip we haven't seen a lot of: read people's profiles and pinned posts!

Like, first of all, this just tells you about people - if you see someone interesting, this lets you know roughly what they're about.

But second, a lot of people use fedi in a very private personal way? And they'll talk about their boundaries there. So digging into that helps you interact with them in a way that makes them comfortable.

One really early impression I have of working in is that it’s just important to be able to use the supporting tools as it is to know how to code.

The only side projects I did where a build system figured in before were when I was learning android and the modifications I made to the Gradle files was very minor.

@abde I like the piano groove. The first half of the track is chill and relaxing but then it amps up with the piano riff in the second half. Nice track!

As I said in my presentation, I have started learning music production for some months now.

The first track I have finished is "Dreams". I hope you like it!

Still working on other tracks, keep tuned ;)

@tatzelbrumm That article had a lot of different and really good points. My favorite one was calling the tax games the wealthy play what they are - wealth transfer. I think conservatives do a really great job of trying to paint any public benefit program or assistance as wealth transfer, when really the transfer of wealth is actually flowing in the opposite direction.

The only thing I disagree with as someone who is also an American is the belief in American exceptionalism. I think in a way that breeds the tech idol worship is that because people are already thinking America is great just because. Then you can make the jump to believe I am exceptional just because I am an American, which is I think exactly the Reagan thing about it’s all about individualism and getting rich while not helping anyone else out.

@philiphubbard @philiphubbard that’s beautiful! This was a lot more engaging than the pictures in my high school textbook.

I looked up macrophage cells and tried to explain that they eat things that are making you sick(hopefully I’m close). He said “it feels like they are just hanging out in a chair in my body while I cough”

@solene I thought the style was unique and the colors were kind of “foresty”. I want to try nushell eventually too. Thank you for the cool tool and post!

Hey folks, I'm , so I guess it's time for an !

I write and software for data analysis in high-energy physics. I like performance-oriented design, I'm learning and I play , currently running a couple of adventures.

So far I don't really feel like I'm building a good mastodon feed for myself, I guess it takes some work uh -- but at least here on I can follow other instances without resorting to multiple accounts, which is _so nice_. Thanks qoto admins!

@markusl @mike thank you both! Keep the tips coming. I genuinely like how most are here to learn and teach each other.

@derickflorian There is definitely a spectrum. My guideline is "when in doubt, use a CW."

Content Warnings are a kindness.

@mike is there a good list of common content warnings that I should keep in mind?

I realize it’s probably going to be some learning from others and feeling it out to know when they are good idea to use.

What is the best way to use Jupyter notebooks and Github? The diffs in the comments are barely readable, and I recall being some wah to handle it properly. Could somebody help me here?

@Cleoqc @3DPrintingDad it was short and easy but I still had to look it up. It seems like there are a lot more ads now but I always liked the dictionary at yellowbridge.com.

@Cleoqc @3DPrintingDad I just got the courage to reply to a Chinese post on my instance today. Hopefully what I said was remotely correct. :)

I figure looking at Chinese language posts will at least help me read better and help justify all the time I spend on here!

I guess that I can explain a little bit what I do. I'm a PhD student at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. My main interests are Numerical Calculus and GPU computing. I also produce some music and am involved in game development.

I'd be glad to interact with you all!

@yoasif I will look at that tomorrow! Thanks for the tip I did not know that existed. :)
