This boy is a trooper!!! He made it thru his yearly exam WITHOUT sedation!!! He’s come so far; he is learning to trust. My vet’s office is phenomenal!
He got vaccines, bloodwork, claws trimmed, temp taken, weighed, AND the dreaded neck squidge! He is resting now. 😻❤️😍

Make Qoto Great Again!

A new campaign, let's bring a lively Local Feed and social interaction to the instance...

it depends on me, it depends on You, and us all can make it happen. 😺

In regards to the Qoto Announcement about language uses in our Mastodon and other services.

[ Posting this here, top level, for exposure. ]

This has been percolating since November 2019 - at least.

The discussion started right here in the Local feed in this instance. We moved the discussion to the Moderation section (publicly viewable to all) since it was getting fragmented and difficult to follow.

This topic from November 2019 has link backs to Toots here as well : discourse.qoto.org/t/nov-2019-

At the time the issue was an incoming wave of Indian users, some of them posting in regional languages and character sets that nobody in our staff could read, never mind monitor for any needed moderation.

We had another wave of incoming users, refugees from Twitter like the Indian users, in the last days of December, 2019. There was a huge spike in user account here and in many other instances, and many of those Spanish users are still active here and elsewhere.

The main issue with foreign languages in the instance is for monitoring content -- in regards to being adequate to our instance's Focus (a STEM place, primarily), and not abusive or containing any content that is inappropriate in accordance with out Terms of Service and Conduct -- see : qoto.org/about/more/

I am part of the site staff and moderation team, and I do speak 3 languages as mentioned in my profile. I am comfortable working in all 3, plus some other Western European languages.

Some of our staff might handle one or two more with proficiency, but we cannot do it for many of the World Languages, which are rich and represent people cultural inheritage.

We are responsible for the upkeep of this organization, and feel we can't go on without being able to monitor content added to our various resources here.

The thread linked in the OP above is new to me, but I will be reading it.

We had this as our most recent discussion and resolution thread on the Languages issue -- discourse.qoto.org/t/resolutio

Decisions are not taken lightly or off the cuff or on a two line post, I assure you.

Moms in India also use Missiles.

The notorious Flying Chappal, a popular and feared discipline tool.

The Most Aerodynamic VW vehicle EVER.

A prototype, which manage to get a cx of 0.15 -- that is incredible.

"The most aerodynamic car ever to wear a Volkswagen emblem on its nose isn't the newest Golf GTI or an ID-badged electric model. It's a forward-thinking prototype named Aerodynamic Research Volkswagen (ARVW) developed and built in 1980 in response to the oil shortages that rocked the global economy in the 1970s.

Volkswagen initiated the project because it wanted to learn more about aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Starting with a blank slate, its engineers designed an aluminum frame and topped it with a body made from fiberglass and carbon in order to keep weight in check. The single-seater stretched 196 inches long, 43.3 inches wide, and 33 inches tall, dimensions that created a silhouette much closer to a race car's than to a Passat's.

Making the ARVW as sleek as possible required mounting the headlights behind Plexiglas covers. There were no mirrors — they would have created drag — but a pair of winglets sticking out from the front end and two big fins out back were added to keep the prototype steady and on four wheels at triple-digit speeds. Its low, elongated body boasted a drag coefficient of 0.15. To add context, the Porsche Taycan Turbo's drag coefficient checks in at 0.22."

A public service announcement...

For anyone who is not into Cats (which I am), please pardon my posting all the cute Feline pictures, but it's , after all.

And a lot of us here in Fediverse like them.

Being concientious of others, if anyone DOES NOT want to see these, please look at my post below, which tells you how to quickly zapp all of them off your Feeds.
