And I should mention that you have been missed, it's always nice when you comment on a topic here, Casey. Thank you!
I like some of the Chromium variants, but all of them have the heavy hand of google behind the scenes controlling the development process; not so great.
Pity that Microsoft went to Chromium instead of supporting Firefox. I don't use any Chromium at the moment, although Opera has some niceties.
@Sphinx I like those fancy tenses. 😃
Learned them, and use them without trouble, unlike many native speakers I have met.
🤯 You are using Chrome ?>>>???
Waterfox to the rescue. Get away from google espionage.
@Sphinx Oh, that is awesome!
We are looking for Talent, Sphynx -- please consider and mention it if you would like to join the Team, we have discussed that recently and are scouting for talent.
Plus, I get the HeadHunting Bonus if you join, lol.... :P
@Sphinx ..plural words, plural verb tense.
There are a lot of new words for us all. :)
Keep at it, making mistakes without fear is a great way to learn, that is how kids do it so quickly for language acquisition.
@sda A quote without attribution? How strange.
@Sphinx The places in Fediverse are not like Facebook, there's no cheering when someone who is already know to a member joins, here it is more anonymous.
And that suits some, many people who are privacy concerned. But the casual ones, posting a Hello message and not getting any reactions, those might not come back, yes.
Qoto was my first ever Fediverse experience, I found it based on JoinMastodon.org, but selected it based on the instance description, theme.
Got lucky to come in at a good time (November's Indian Diaspora was moving from Twitter to Fediverse), and to find a good instance. I liked it, and was soon getting involdved and learning the ways of the place and the software.
However -- if my very first instance had been less optimal, say something like masto.social -- I wouldn;t have lasted 3 days either.
Being completely honest on this, I want to write someday about this - from personal experience to my view as a community builder and staff member, besides being part of many other communities too.
Nomad, that's me. I like to see the several Caravanserai out there.
Images galore, beautiful places : https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Caravanserai&FORM=HDRSC2
@freemo @realcaseyrollins
And only within Mastodon instances, sorted by peers : https://fediverse.network/mastodon?count=peers
Linkage - sorted by peers : https://fediverse.network/?count=peers
@Sphinx Alas, this brings to mind -- how much better adding some socializing in the Local feed could make this instance. I find it sorely missing, compared to a few months ago, but many good people who frequented here have left for any particular reason.
We can Make Qoto Great Again --- #MQGA is a #Thing #Qoto #NewUsers #Welcome
@Sphinx You can also post a welcoming post without a name inserted.
Make it nice writing, include a nice and relevant image. Repeat once a week or so, changing the message and image.
In personal welcome messages to new users, I always like to include a couple of Mastodon Guide links -- most new people need that, the Fediverse is VAST and Mastodon itself is full of controls and settings, privacy levels, Federation, etc.
Guide is definitely NEEDED.
* Incoming! Too many New Friend's Letters ??!! *
Things have been very quiet lately on Reddit subs, so I was happy to see an incoming Direct Message. From my good friend -littleghost.
And we went from there; She has a situation, all of a sudden too many new people found her profile and now 7 new letters were incoming!
Very soon I was using my text editor, to write freely without the constrains of the Reddit Chat message entry box.
An interesting start for the day -- and instant inspiration for today's Blog post, once I had written most of it as suggestions and comments to paste into the DM window.
The page is at : https://wordsmith.social/friends-near-and-afar-letters-we-share/incoming-too-many-new-friends-letters
@Lwasserman Very nice, lovely!
And I am joining her, snooze time for me too...
@2ck I quite like the emdash -- renders really well on Write.freely.
There are many limitations and specially privacy concerns with the large corporate nets, but undeniably there's some content that is NOT available here.
I despise a lot of stuff on some of them, to the point that I would never step on Insta, But Twitter, despite the nazis, Trumpers and other nasties, has some great content I am interested in.
And in some cases, bridge here; and can see recognition in the Favourites and boost notifications those posts get.
