@11112011 Being so close to the neighours accross the river/land frontier line, we worry about being invaded promptly if shtf over there.

Big city not too far from me, they would take over our whole region; there's 10 times the population, compared to us, and many are armed.

@11112011 Oh, I missed the /Sarcasm tag on the original post my bad. 😟

re: Uspol, yep

Have a hard time believing, NY Times and Guardian don't have it on front page, which something like this would instantly be on.

Powerful interests on keeping the Israeli company active.

@11112011 The man is insane. Unbelievable to have such a person in his position.

Affects the whole world, economy, politics and geo strategies, with his random, mindless twerks.

@shibaprasad On Windows 10 it is the default for the lockscreen, I used a program from windows store previously that brought new pictures from Bin and had the option to save them to local hdisk.

Very nice as they are beautiful and sometimes not downloadable from bing page itself, copyright license restriction.

There must be a way to get it to show on Android lockscreen too, I imagine.

@shibaprasad Fedilab seems to have a web browser with ad blocker built in, maybe try to use that.

I use my laptop mostly, have desktop systems that used to be my home and now stay neglected since I can sit on the sofa, much comfier with the laptops.

I do have Waterfox on both my full systems and my android phone. It's a fork of Firerfox, with less tracking, telemetry and other things disabled.

The mobile version can even install the uBlock Origin and Bitwarden add-ons which I use in all my systems. And it can synch with my FF account, so all bookmarks and recent activity are portable.

Bing has been my search engine of choice lately too, plus I love the daily beautiful photos on their site and on my lockscreen.

It helps a lot. There's too much noise and a lot of manipulation on some media. Particularly bad are the Right wing extremely polarized places run by the billionaires like Rupert Murdoch (Fox TV, tabloids in the UK, etc)

Or the other idiots on that bandwagon, there's many of them.

@inditoot

@shibaprasad Oh, you can visit the page even without having a FB account -- or, as is my case, staying Logged OUT of their network unless I want to visit, look around and then logout again.

(Their trackers will follow you everywhere in the Net if you stay logged in)

BTW, for Desktop/laptop users, they can see it MUCH nicer via the full page version: facebook.com/lthmath/

@Rovine
Scotland I have never visited, but I can imagine it being worse in Winter than here. Bleak, windy, cold, shorter days even as it's further Northern latitude.

That can be very hard on people.

IKEA's designs use brilliant colours for that reason, to bring some colour and cheer into people's lives and help counter the S.A.D.

I can relate to your thoughts above. Times are not good and it can hit our sanity. Do what you need to do to avoid being brought down, it might be a temporary diversion to something more positive to help you heal.

I find that posting here is very beneficial. I love the news and was spending too much time and cycling thru my favourite sources, analyzing non stop.

very solitary endeavour, and we can't do much as a single person. But staying informed is important, just be selective on what sources to use.

For me, these are The Guardian, NY Times, The Atlantic, New Yorker primarily.

@inditoot

@Rovine
I hope so too. Is he in the Norther hemisphere? Winter is a particularly had season for everyone here.

I am glad that I was inspired by a BBC article I saw on TW, and talked abuot the Indian users migration to Mastodon.

Intriguing, made me curious and I found this place. Now I have lots of ideas to keep me ticking over a season I don't enjoy.

Love it!

Maybe invite your friend to join us at Qoto?

@Rovine
Your post above about your friend is wonderful, thank you for sharing these thoughts.

Posts like those are what I really value, not single line random musings, irrelevant to most.

Cheers, and I hope your friend can find a way to use his talents and feel better again.

We all struggle.

@freemo @inditoot @_lunawinters

@freemo @inditoot @_lunawinters I have a friend. He couldn't finish college. He tried to do programming but constantly run into frustrations of poor instructions and lack of help and encouragement from his college. He spends most of his time playing video games and "running away from reality" that is his own future, let alone reality of the world. If he tries to face reality, all that greets him is the "reality" that there's no place in this world for him. No one wants an unmotivated "lazy ass" like him. He is not able to function in this society and likewise this society has no place for him.

And yet he is my absolute best friend. He talked me out of feeling worthless when I couldn't make anything work. He nudged me into game jams and gave me ideas for me to work on. He played games with me and helped distracting me on days when I feel like shit, not just shit about myself but shit about society and "reality". Everytime I slip, I got back on my feet because he yanked me out of "reality" and helped me experience a better way of life, proving to me that it is totally possible to feel better about yourself, and all the more proof that before you can save the world, you gotta save yourself first.

He's totally running away from reality, but in his case, I hope he won't ever have to face it. If anything, reality doesn't deserve his gift.

@freemo That is really neat, and also that the tools you have monitor the traffic so well.

I would imagine people who came first might be telling friends at their older place and they come in, second wave.

Posts, I lke active feeds too. Specially the posts that are not single line, cryptic, dada--didi style.

Was never much of a user on the birdsite, still struggle to have that kind of terseness.

@SecondJon Bet you the Koch Brothers will massively counter fund that.
