@rvlobato Yes, I thought it was quite positive, and plan to write a blog post telling people this migration option is there, it's free and easy to do.

Will mention the KDE project and the link you provided too -- options are god, and Linux is technically a superb choice. TY!

@puzzl Wonderful, I am glad you liked the Discourse Forum! I think it has great potential, it complements Mastodon well.

Enjoy these, Puzzl.

@snow I find that very important too - there are some instances allowing 1000, 10,000 and up to 65,000 characters like Qoto does.

And then there are the cramped places with the 500 Chars limit and system admins, who possibly because of having been Twitter users for years and used to the soundbyte culture there, don't see the need for more.

And denied me when asked about increasing it.

Definitely a limitation I do not enjoy.

@realcaseyrollins You can get away for a day or two or three -- but that deficit will accumulate and there's a price to pay. Sleep 8 hours if you can, or as much as possible.

I do get agitated and get up if waking and not feeling like sleeping. With the darkness of Winter it's not nice out, I leave the curtains closed and just get into the computer and resume reading, replying and other activities.

Then a few days later you wake up feeling drained, and need to take time off and do little, to recover some of that lost sleep. Regular schedule is better, avoid electronics near bed or looking at any devices in middle of night if you wake up.

@SecondJon wow, well done, Jon!! Hard core, to be out in that kind of weather, and to run that much. 👍

@snow @puzzl Hello Snow and welcome to Qoto!

I am glad you got assistance from Puzzl, as I was in sleepland for a while. Yes, this is one of the great things in Mastodon -- that every user has the ability to selectively Block any user, or even a whole instance, that they object to.

There are some annoying people, and people who try to make moeny merchandising erotic images and services. It's good that these have migrated to a few servers that are easily identified and blocked, as you have already done.

In some cases there are images that are worrisome to people in many jurisdictions -- as they might depict children in unpleasant ways.

The mastodon.social instance, the home of the project developr and one of the largest ones around, blocks all media, images from pawoo.net due to that.

I would just mention that if you do block that whole server you would lose access to one of my favourite accounts - the totally innocent Cat Posting Bot @catpostingbot

If you have any questions, please ask.

We have some guides for new users available too, if you like.

If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

We also have another new users guide, posted here : write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggesti

* You CAN run more than one instance of Pinafore. Not by opening another tab into the same website :

the default is pinafore.social

* BUT -- if you know of another site hosting a copy of Pinafore, you CAN open that one. It will be a new account, it doesn't know of any of your already stored credentials or preferences.

* but now you can keep them running with one instance in one tab, a diff one on another tab.

Some users in already know about how good and fast the Pinafore client is.

A web hosted, static site -- you load the site and login, it authorizes with your instance, which requests your permission.

Besides being Light and Fast, Pinafore is smooth running, has a lot of colour options, supports Multiple Instances with easy switching between one and the next. Couple clicks, you are into the other account, using it's colours, etc.

Better than one Pinafore ? Just two maybe?

@puzzl Ah, glad you like it -- I find it makes the Widescreen experience really neat. Love it.

It will provide that wide screen full display in many other instances too, including many where the Mastodon AWI is very narrow and wastes a lot of space. With Collapsed Mastodon, it looks just like this screenshot above.

@puzzl For using the Discourse Forum and the NextCloud service, you just need to sign up for them -- each is a separate account from the Mastodon instance, unfortunately. We suggest you use the same name as you use in Mastodon, so people can recognize you more easily.

* NextCloud is at : cloud.qoto.org/apps/registrati

@puzzl Hello and welcome to Qoto -- I am glad you like the place are are enjoying it. 😃

I like the Dark Theme, and run it in full screen on my laptop. With a nice add-on for Firefox called "Collapsed Mastodon" it uses all of the screen - as shown in this screenshot I am taking now.

It add a Toot Editor right below the post I want to reply to. 😉
