I think you have a point there - maybe it's unintentional, a cultural thing, a difference of language but I do see some of that aspect.
Since I know Snow from other talks here I know it's not meant to offend, but it could be perceived otherwise by other people.
This thread was quite active too, so something worked on this case! :)
@khird @snow
@freemo I don't think Bernie would accept or be interested in the VP slot under a Bidden ticket...
@freemo I trust your motive and have seen the recent thread where DK was attempting this doxxing of someone in another instance.
Visited the sunbeam city mastodon, and their Wiki does have a specific restriction about "doxxing other members " (not specified if only locally or in other instances as well) being unacceptable behaviour. See screenshot below, from https://wiki.sunbeam.city/doku.php?id=code_of_conduct
If you do have a post or thread from their admin staff stating doxxing of people in other instances might be acceptable, I would suggest it would be productive to insert a link and maybe a screen capture here so people can verify it.
@freemo I do hope that Mr Bidden could reach out and extend an invitation to Mrs. Warren to be the Vice-president on his ticket.
The sonner the better, actually, since it seems likely he will be getting the Democratic nomination, and Mr. Sanders supporters will be royally upset. Possibly refuse to support him or even vote, which might lead to mor trump times, the worst possible outcome.
@khird All good suggestions! 👍

@mngrif
This campaign did cause some damage, as you mentioned. I think whoever started it must be happy, results from their effort.
Sadly, it's something not that complicated, if people took the time to search for an explanation and understand Privacy settings they might understand and not freak out in such a manner.
I was quite surprised to discover that mastodon.technology had us blocked, unilaterally and without any incidents reported, for that very reason.
The admin there apparently was led to block Qoto after a local user "suggested it" - we have a user here at Qoto who used to be there, and left disgusted with that action.
He had started a thread asking about that fact, and the user who originally suggested that ban posted in the thread and stated it was their suggestion.
Disappointing, that a Technology themed and large instance took that course (and wouldn't budge, when I sent a polite email asking, unless we did ban the instances they banned as well.)
@snow We can't really control how much response we get on a post; hopefully an instance with an active Local feed might generate some, and it's quite enjoyable when it happens.
You did already good things, by engaging with other people's posts, which pleases them and in turn might generate responses to your own threads.
But the Local feed here at Qoto doesn't feel as nice as it was in some earlier times (mind you my experience here is also a limited time only).
These are my best suggestions, hope they can help you; although it doesn't depend on the author only either.
Maybe try to find some interesting posts in the "Home"feed and respond there? I came across some really nice ones and got engaged, enjoyed it; although it's such a random thing, that we just happen to see that post and be looking at the right feed to see it.
Good luck, Snow!
@snow It's pretty frustrating to post and not get any comments or replies, isn't it? And yet, we see lots of people here and elsewhere that seem to post reams of things and not mind the very low engagement rates (in Twitter is the same thing).
I feel that a Local feed that is active and social (people from the instance responding and commenting to other local users posts) is a good way to improve things. Not only it gives the poster a feedback and the sensation that their posts matter, but it might get people in other instances to notice and comment as well.
We had some pretty nice times here at Qoto, when there was this kind of thing going on actively, but things change all the time, people go missing, get busy etc. and new ones come in which we might not know or interact much with.
I think having a nicely laid out post - a title line, followed by a line break, then an initial paragraph, some relevant image, links if possible, all those might help get a reader's attention.
@Kovaelin
I think for many non-technical people, having a server that has these blocks might feel like a security blanket maybe. They might not know who the people or the instances banned are, but if their instance staff decides they do not deserve to share communications, users might accept that without discussion.
Yes, and technically, analyzing it down to the fundamentals -- all this is doing is showing posts made to the whole network with a privacy set to "Public'.
As in, not the slightest restriction on who can see it or when. Public means Public, but people think that they are safer and more private by controlling who can "follow"their Public posts?
On the other hand, most people would like to have a wider circle to reach with their posts, so they use the Public mode, instead of Followers-Only for example. Which would be respected and not show here or anywhere else, unless the interested reader was a "follower" of the poster.
A really interesting story on The Guardian; how a couple of homeless people in London, UK, managed to build an underground bunker and live on it for almost two years undetected. Right inside Hampstead Heath park, adjoining a very expensive neighbourhood.
@mngrif I was kind of surprised by this, but visited and can confirm -- their About-More page has their blocking list and it's pretty extensive.
They list Qoto, and the justification seems to be the same as mastodon.technology -- for federating with instances they disapprove of.
Looks like it might not be due to this latest complaints thread about the subscribing to public posts discussed in other thread yesterday.
@snow
You can see it on the Datails tab at this page : https://www.fediverse.space/instance/qoto.org
@kenorbit We had a big influx of Spanish Twitter users, leaving that platform just before the New Year. It even changed the usual server weekly averages and graphs of accounts.
They left there in mass, and spread out over many mastodon instances, including Qoto. They are quite political and active, and have conversations with other users in other instances daily.
@Coomer
DissidentKitty had her "Ban Them" thread going for a few hours when I saw one of the replies fly by in the Federated feed..
Read up all of the posts until then, and responded, and she did not like it. It happened on Christmas Eve morning, if I am not mistaken. Pretty ironic time to post asking for a banishment of a whole internet community.

@freemo
That comment from the liberpunk.club guy is a good explanation of the backlash.
Pretty silly reaction as the posts which could be seen are of course "Public" as set by their original posters.
But reaction will exist. PrincessKitty who I had some interaction with in a previous "Ban them" thread even mentioned the nerve of Qoto people responding in her thread, at that time. 😜
