@banna
😄 Glad you came, I usually offer people a guide to mastodon and the Fediverse, not sure if you need one (clue - the Fediverse emoji you used on the first post)

But if you like just ask and I can post the links. Getting to bed time, so have a good night!

@freemo

@banna Our admin here is going to love to see your intro post -- and have someone to discuss those topics with.

@freemo

Z(1) = Y + W(1)

Statement in this input device.

The famous "punched cards", which each cold hold 80 characters or one line of programming instructions or data for processing.

I learned this language, and created my assignments in decks of those cards.

Back in November, when I was starting here, we had a delightful thread about it, which included this image.

@k11m1 -- see it here : qoto.org/@design_RG/1031544014

One line of computer programming, whichever language you were using. Up to 80 characters wide, same as the card's width.

I remember. And we loved it. No home computers, no cellphones, no internet. Mid 70's in my case.

@Full_marx

@k11m1 LOL...

It is not impossible, but it takes a lot of concentration, and hopefully a smaller programme to work with.

When I first learned, we did not have access to computers directly at all; that was reserved for the high priesthood, serving the needs and whims of the large, school gym sized computer center. We students would create our programmes, that had to do some task assigned by profs.

And later get the lines of code ready for input -- punch cars for us. I did my own punching, found a quiet room wth a machine in the Physics department, little used, and would go there to prepare my deck,

Because testing was laborious (revisions equaling new cards needed, finding a punch, etc) we tried the best we could to read and follow the logic.

But I think getting it bug free in 3 passes was good, very good.

Fast forward many years, and me teaching basic programming; my students were bright, did well, but they found it quite hard to create a small programme in paper only (without trying to run and see what happens, to find the errors).

This was good for discipline, but it is less common. They whined everytime I called for a pencil and paper only task, lol.... 😺

This may look like a glorious morning view but these piercing eyes followed by a chorus of shrieking meows demand one thing only; Breakfast. Now.

@a1batross

Yes, stepping in the Shoulders of Giants. But you added some nice extras -- the Rich Text formatting support is unique.

And I do value that, plain mastodon text pales in comparison to what we can do in GlitchSoc or Pleroma toots.

@a1batross

Thank you. I just installed and used Husky, it did support the Share Toot (with link only or link+data choices), which went to my text editor on mobile successfuly.

The client looks nice and polished at first impressions, well done.

@freemo @nolan @yann2

@a1batross

Thank you, I just got the apk for Husky and installed, will try later.

Hope there's a way to share the date (toot url plus text content) via clipboard in Windows or Linux too.

@freemo @nolan @yann2

@nolan
Ok, so we users of Real Computers, beg you to implement this, if possible.

We got a ton of internal staff talk, which starts as a casual DM and soon is important, and should be preserved -- hence my need for an effocient copy, to take it to our Forum for permanent record.

And most staff probably use PC class machines for real work in Fedi, I imagine. So I think it is an useful feature.

@a1batross @freemo @yann2

@nolan
No, sir, as I imagined, the copy link does exactly that, not a penny more. 😃

@a1batross @freemo @yann2

@nolan
OOOOoooh.... 😜

Who would have that option would copy the Data involved too. But thanks for clarification!

@a1batross @freemo @yann2

@nolan

Thanks, Nolan -- I only see these, Firefox on Windows 10.

Not the one I am looking for. Got to try on mobile, but I rarely use it; prefer laptop/desktops.

@a1batross @freemo @yann2

@a1batross

Thank you! I tried getting Husky yesterday from the Git and couldn't find a DL link. Any way to obtain it? (tried Play, Fdroid links)

The second image on the OP above shows Shared data as imported directly into a text editor on the same device.

Toot text and it's link are all present, as shown.
