From now on I am only buying laptop brands that are part of LVFS... Really loving the level of compatibility im seeing from linux on Lenovo.
@freemo I have no idea what this is, but I have to plug framework. Linux works great (barring very minor and easily fixable hardware accel issues).
They're repairable, thunderbolt 4 capable (works great with the Caldigit TS4 dock), and they're planning on working with coreboot and fully open-sourcing their schematics (for component level repair) soon! I love mine, and I just migrated from a thinkpad, but of course, YMMV.
@freemo Love Lenovo, they're pretty decent. My gaming laptop from job is also a Lenovo and if I would have to buy my own.. yeah, gotta be Lenovo too. ;)
Totally agree @freemo ! But #Linux #compatibility is higher on #Thinkpad more than #Ideapad or lower tiers models ^^
This said, compatibility is anyway higher than other #brands :3
I have a #T440p and a ideapag gaming with amd... and only have problems with the latter which has no #driver to regulate the brightness HW level, must regulate by adjusting the gamma value via script and same for the battery which has no fine control on the charge level as Thinkpad models have, i.e. start charging at 70% and stop at 75%. On the ideapad I can only manually set the charge to stop charging at 50% or 100% u.u
@freemo What is LVFS in this context?
@freemo You mentioned laptops and I wanted to see if you had an opinion on hinges. I got super fed up at my dell and HP laptop hinges failing in less than 2 years, that I did my research and bought an ACER Enduro last night. It supposedly has the toughest hinges available. There was an incredibly sweet deal on the ACER site that I just couldn't resist - 1T SSD, 16gb Ram, FHD, and an i7 all for $638 with the site discount. I hear that the color profile and the speakers suck, so I may need to ask/figure out later how I might improve those two things, but it felt like there was no other option. Sort of like your LVFS mantra, mine is "hinges before all else"!
