I dont **need** a lot of things in life that enrich me. Lack of need has never been particularly relevant to what should be legal.

With that said when the nearest police are 20 minutes away and your bleeding to death because you didnt have a gun youll likely change that opinion.

@Surasanji I'm not suggesting they should have guns. But just because they shouldnt have guns doesnt mean we need to enforce it the way we do.

Think about how we handle it with anything else in most countries. For example if your physically no longer able to drive (such as you get epilepsy) a doctor could never legally directly get your license reported. It is simply illegal for you not to choose on your own to report yourself. If you dont and you hurt someone or have a seizure on the road you could be arrested for man slaughter.

I see you and your disease similarly. If you dont report yourself then you should be charged with negligence.

@Surasanji While, if you do feel it is possible you could be a risk, I agree it is responsible for you not to own a gun, I do not agree with the law.

While I am not particularly bothered when im living in the netherlands by the lack of a gun, and I do disagree with the law, that isnt what bothers me so much about your situation.

The idea of using normally private mental health to dictate who can own a gun is fundamentally disgusting to me. The reason is important. In a situation like that if there is a person who didnt agree and insisted ont he right to own a gun, but felt they were developing a mental disorder, they would explicitly avoid seeking mental health since by doing so they forfeit their rights in a society. This in turn would lead to more harm than good, not only is the sacred confidentiality of doctor and patient violated but it acts as a force in society that makes mental health issues spiral out of control and the situation worse. Plus, stigmatizing mental health...

Thats not what I said. I said "because it means someone who wants to live can not, or someone will suffer." Notice I specify two different reasons we make it illegal. ONE is suffering, the other is because someone wants to to live and we violate that free will.

If someone wanted to die, AND they wouldnt suffer by doing so, then we would be ok killing them. BOTH factors are relevant. Neither factor applies to a fetus without a brain.

@SecondJon No in the first few months there is literally no brain, no neurons of any kind. You cant even say it isnt fully developed. It literally is non existent.

It literally is little different than sperm in the first few months.

You are welcome to whatever religious beleifs you want, but thats not how we create law, nor should it be. In the end we make murder illegal because it means someone who wants to live can not, or someone will suffer.

I think a very obvious line where it i is and should be legal is int he early period before there is any sort of brain.

Not sure of the relevance of if an unborn child can murder or not though. Your original post pointed out hypocrisy in opposing a death penalty and supporting abortion. Obviously the inverse of that is equally hypocritical.

After several more hours of cleanup the Prototyping SMT board I've been working on is finally done. I attached both sides of the board below.

I havent decided yet if I want to make this open-source. I probably will.

It can act as a simple breakout board for either a single SSOP-20 or x2 SOT-23-6 chips. To use it as a normal breakout just use solder to bridge the 20 connectors on the right and left and sides of the board and it will be a normal breakout (which each pin on the chip going to one of the header pins directly).

However there is also a SMT grid on the front and back so you can solder a full circuit onto the chip and arbitrarily have any point in the circuit wired to the various pins. Which makes for very handle little modules you can solder up and reuse.

I also added two power rails for ground and VCC down the middle with vias to both sides of the board. I also added other connectors around the edge that add in vias and wires connections to the opposite side of the board. Should be very useful.

One other little hidden feature is the spacing. Most of the pads are the perfect size to fit most two terminal SMT components (x4 0603 components can solder onto a single pad). But because the pads down the middle are offset it is also very easy to solder on SOT-23 connectors that have 3 terminals. So you really can solder almost any sort of SMT components on here.

Next step will be to build a larger protoboard that can accept modules like this and similar to create more advanced circuits.
