@djatropine444 wait till you find out the fact that the whole reason he got into politics was to put a stop to desegregation.
@stux This must be extremely sped up.. still cool though. Also are you sure it is bacterial. I dont usually see bacteria that are quite that mobile, thought here are quite a few other microbes that are.
I wasnt refering to the intercept but rather news as a whole. And I was being a bit hyperbolic to use the word "criminally"... though they do quite often lie through their teeth (all of the media) I'm not sure its fair to say its a crime to lie and have bias.
Other than maybe C-span I dont think I've ever seen a news organization with journalistic integrity to any degree anymore.
That said this is a huge tangent and we dont need to get into debating if news agencies are valid or not... If you feel they offer good evidence or make a good point, just share it directly. I have no need to hear a new's spin on it though.
@kingannoy@octodon.social
@stux The bird is just like "Weird, never saw a bird like you before, whatcha up to, can this thing catch mice?"
@djatropine444 I agree, the issue isnt with the politicans, politicians and their behaviors is merely the symptom. The problem is with the american voter for sure.
@kingannoy@octodon.social
I really have little interest in the agenda and swing of criminally bias news organizations or how they want to erroneously retell the story.
I watched every second of the court case, I watched every second of video, and I will not invest one second in the media trying to spin things, I have more than enough evidence to know what happened that the news is going to add 0 value here.
Now if you think the news article presents a valid point or new evidence please feel free to voice it, I will be happy to discuss any talking points. But I find 0 value in media diatribes.
Now to answer your question:
Number of people who died with lax gun laws:
2, exactly the people who should have died, the criminals with a history of violence who were trying to kill/severely injure him.
Number of people who would have died with strict gun laws:
1, the innocent person who was out all day providing first aid to protestors who was killed by a mob of angry thugs who deserved to die fdor trying to kill him but werent because gun laws meant he couldnt have a gun.
All figures are from the CDC, gun violence archive, 2016-1018. You will have to download the data directly if you want to verify.
If you want sources on how restriction in gun laws consistently result in increase in violence in the years that follow I can get that for you again. I have posted those figures multiple times on my thread so I'd have to dig it up.
@kingannoy@octodon.social @frank87
You are perfectly fine in thinking undergoing transition is not a good personal choice to make.. What you dont have a right to do is dictate for others what is or is not the best choice for their own body. More over you absolutely have no right to hate them for a choice they make with their own body.
If all you did was say in a post "I dont think sexual transition is a healthy life choice for people to make" .. fine I'd have given you a pass. But that is not what you said or did. You literally excluded a person and said you felt hate simply because they were trans. Now your doing everything you can to justify it as well by mostly making irrelevant points. Hate is hate, you were wrong, period. It barely matters that they were trans other than the fact that being trans, changing their own body, is their right to do, its their body.
@kingannoy@octodon.social
Fair, but even having a gun outside of a range is effectively illegal so what I said is at least party true (as you pointe dout).
Guns used for protecting life and property are the overwhelming majority of incidents and school shootings and mass shootings in general are a very small percentage relative to that.
As for suicides, I leave that out. A person has a right in my mind to commit suicide and a person commiting suicide with a gun or anything else is their right to do, so in no way would I ever include that in the figures. In fact I'd go so far to say if someone wants to commit suicide they have a right to do so by whatever means they feel is best for then.
Some numbers:
percentage of times a gun is used as defense vs homicide is a whopping 81%
Percentage of people killed by guns in mass shootings (that is defined as 3 or more people so a very loose definition of mass shooting)... <1%

@djatropine444 I wouldnt say they enjoy national ddebt exact. More like they couldnt give a flying fuck about national debt, or national anything. They have absolutely no interest in fixing problems. They care if they are elected, and if their party wins seats. Nothing more, nothing less.
@kingannoy@octodon.social
At what point did I say that a gun shot cant be potentially lethal? I said quite the opposite that a non-lethal shot carries with it the risk of death, just as someone destroying a car cars with it the risk of death or injury to those nearby.
As for if a car can explode by stomping on it, yea its exceedingly rare, but it can happen if the damage is extensive enough. During the philly riots I have personally witnessed this happen (a car that was stomped on and overturned exploded here). So yes it can happen.
none of what I said requires being trans to be a human right to be true. What is, or at least should be, a human right is bodily autonomy. A person can surgically alter their genitalia in any way they please and put whatever they want in their body.
Actually i didnt notice you had attached a link to your comment. Not sure how I missed that.
Not all mental disorders lead to violence, in fact a great many dont. But are you not familiar with anger management therapy. Anger, in and of itself, is treated by therapists just as much as schizofrenia. Therapy isnt about disorders, its about addressing the dark parts of you in all shapes and form.
I also want to point out there are a ton of mental disorders that explicitly have violence as a symptom. For example one criteria for Intermittent explosive disorder is that you must have at least 3 episodes or more a year where you cause physical injury to others.
The idea that us states with stricter gun laws have less shootings is what we call the cum hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy and it is **not** how good statistics work. For causality we always show that a change in law is followed by a change in the trend of violence, we do not use static correlations. The reason for this should be obvious, if guns stop violence then states with more violence have greater pressure to have lax gun laws as people have a greater need to be protected. So in fact what you think is the cause and effect is in fact reversed from the reality. The guns arent causing the violence, the violence is causing the guns.
If we actually do look at proper statistical analysis where one looks at a change in law and then observes the change in rates of violence that follow in the years after we see, in fact, a quite strong trend where restrictions of guns lead to an increase in violence and homicides.
@kingannoy@octodon.social
I may not know dutch law in any detail but I will say I kinda expect shooting anyone, ever, for any reason (even if they are literally trying to kill you) probably wont fly in a dutch court. The Dutch just dont see a gun for self defense as ever justified.
Obviously I think they are egregiously incorrect. But I'm not a Dutch judge so that makes little difference WRT the law.

"Sometimes, the answers to the questions are sadly not the answers you wanted or expected."
This is true, and yet other times the answers are just plain bigoted and wrong. In this case I would say that is more apt a description.
"Words aren’t violence."
At no point in the conversation did I equate words to violence, nor is the quote she responded to in any way referencing violence. I very clearly spoke about hate and bigotry, not violence.
@djatropine444 They cant, by virtue of their followers, agree on liking anything, no matter how much they want to. So I am certain at least one of them would absolutely hate it :)
@kingannoy@octodon.social
I think its fair to say some portion of police shooting unarmed victims is simply a mistake that might not have happened if guns were less common. I cant really say wht perportion it is but I suspect that is a very small part of the problem for several reasons.
1) Cops overwhelmingly support the 2A and generally claim they want to see citiizens armed. If they were scared for their life I doubt they would be saying this.
2) The overwhelming perportion of people who shoot cops are criminals who got their guns illegally, and as such would not have been prevented by gun laws (especially considering guns are easily manufactured in private workshops)
3) I doubt all those dogs they are shooting were because they thought they were hiding a gun
4) the overwhelming number of cops I have met who have demonstrated they are bad people (and the statistics such as them having huge perportions of spouse abuse) suggests to me the problem isnt the guns, its the cops.
