@mngrif 4 always 4.
@Kelly_NAproducR The biggest danger from this I can think of is the fact taht all these tissues are likely infected with different strains of the cold. This means that while contracting multiple strains at once in the wild is relatively rare its likely common case here. Which could be more dangerous but it also means if people start using this we will get viruses that more quickly recombine to new strains. All sorts of risky in my view...
@AtlasFreeman So as someone who would never be a hypocrite I presume you are adamantly against both the death penalty and abortion?
@SecondJon In the end the idea of arguing over semantics is always a wasteful one. I have no issue with the term "illegal immigrant" what i do care about is if your hateful towards immigrants. Your choice of words just arent that important to me so much as your intent.
Doesnt really work that way. distributing the cost doesnt make it infinitesimal, particularly if the government inefficiencies you pointed out are accounted for (the overall cost increases).
It is just not as simple as you keep in implying. We cant have a rational or productive conversation if all you do is hold on to the dogma.
I appreciate your goal, but sadly with so many views on the political spectrum, the mentality of absolutes and dogma wont get us anywhere productive. I'm not even opposed to your idea of publicly funded public transport. I just wish to have an educated and indepth discussion about its merits. Something I am not getting here it seems...
@b9AcE Your end goal isnt what is in question. As I pointed out there are just more than one way to get there.
Again a welfare system that is successfully implemented ensures that public transport (and any other resources) are equally accessible to everyone. That holds true whether it is government run or privatized.
So no it isnt too much to ask, its just that your way of getting there is not the only way.
@b9AcE As you pointed out earlier, government programs are often far more wasteful and inefficient than the alternative.
People are going to pay for public transportation one way or the other. It can be through tax, or it can be direct to a corporation. We already saw in england how the privitization brought down overall costs, so there is merit in that approach.
Free simply does not exist, it takes money to keep these systems running so it is not possible in any sense of the word for them to ever be free. the only difference is how you pay, and how much money you waste.
@b9AcE As with many systems run by governement (including public transportation and welfare) you are entierly right. Many countries fail at it. Some countries succeed.
The best approach rather than dogma is to understand how and why and go from there. You certainly wont get any argument from me that welfare is broken and would need to be fixed, it cant simply be implemented as-is.
No doubt you had a failure in your expiernce. My guess would be based on your expiernce that you are american. Some of the worst implementation of welfare exists there.
@b9AcE Or you can just be perfectly accepting of the cost of public transportion and then support welfare to ensure anyone too poor to afford it has the financial help to do so.
Life isnt so black and white "this is the only option" as people tend to make it out when it comes to political issues.
@doctorow Considering the plummeting numbers of the DNC in the last decade or so (14% drop)...
@SecondJon Sadly while some people on social media can be very good at being mature (as @Surasanji often has demonstrated) there is always that group that feels being offended and namecalling anything that disagrees with them is the same as being a "white knight" and almost sees such action as nobel.
I, as always, entierly respect anyone who disagrees with me no matter how stupid i may find the argument, presuming they are respectful in their debate. But as you pointed out so often it is little more than name calling anytime someone presents a point that is even remotely critical, even if that person may not entierly agree with you.
In my case I generally supported immigrants and dont see it as soemthign worth putting resources into. I even want to see open-borders, which you think would make people see me as being on their side. But since i made the point that open-borders and welfare systems are not entirely compatible I am effectively indistinguishable from hitler in their minds... oh well, such idiocy isnt really worth my time.
@Gargron Haha yea the occasional boobies that are likely to get through and other unwanted messages might not play out too well :)
@Gargron Maybe get some sort of a fancy digital billboard that updates with the federated timeline. Would probably cost 10x more but I bet would get way more attention.
@Surasanji Yea i cant argue with any of that. Though to be fair the issue extends beyond social media. Its most of the english speaking world, and even more so america. Just outside of social media we tend to have the advantage (or disadvantage) of only being exposed to our small little part of the world.
@Surasanji opinions never upset me, only the actions that often result from it do.. so i am never upset by a persons opinions. I just think their a moron and move on.
@Surasanji Its mostly just the constantly triggered extrimist population that inhabits the darker regions of mastodon. I've been a free speech advocate on here a few times and even had eugene himself unleash his wrath on me for it. It really is pathetic :(
Here's a blink animation to make it easier to see the differences. I love that we can *just* barely begin to see the base of the lower left jet through the obscuring dust in infrared, and all of these little stars begin to show up.
So I got bored and did what I usually do when in bored, I needlessly improve things.
I improved my lighting system which used to run directly off a large switching power supply. It now runs off a 20v Dell power adapter which then feeds into a buck dc-dc converter which drops the voltage down to 6.4 volts and a Max current of 2.8amps with over 90% effiency. I then feed this into the light itself. The setup is working perfectly so far.
