@goodtiding5 You have no way of testing if they are there whether you notice it or not. You assume that becuase your own perseptions show a world where you might conclude that to be the fact. But since those perceptions are subjective you cant know if that is true or not.
Again the example i gave earlier of the philosophical argument of the brain in the jar. Since every human being other than you is a simulation in that scenario all you know is your perceiving people and objects that tell you something happened when you werent observing it. Since you are still relying on your own perception for the interaction with those people you can not be absolutely certain if what you just claimed is true or not at all.
From the perspective of an insane person there are countless things that suggests to them certain truths exist that arent, after all his imaginary friend saw it too.
@masterofthetiger@theres.life
@masterofthetiger@theres.life Not really. Science is nothing more than an attempt to identify the patterns we perceive in useful ways. It is not and never been about some absolute truth.
A simple example is the brain in a jar philosophical argument. If we were little more than brains hooked up to a simulation as long as the rules of that simulation have some element of consistency to them then science within that artifical world would work just fine. Yet the "truths" one would infer from scientific experiments would not really be absolute truths as the world outside of the simulation may behave in ways completely unlike the simulation.
Worse yet, you cant even guarantee there is some greater reality with which you are a brain in the jar in the first place. Since whatever that reality might be, if one existed, is also unknowable.
@masterofthetiger@theres.life I never claimed there is no such thing as true or not. I just said there is no way of determining if there is or not. So while you can make a faith based decision on what you believe the answer is, thats all you can do. Arguing if there is absolute truth or not is like arguing if there is a god.
@Gargron Fair, I was thinking a simple version of that. But like i said its not a feature I would use so take my advice with a rather large grain of salt.
@Gargron I wouldnt use the feature on QOTO server, but id say at a minimun it should have admin customization list of questions, I'd even suggest the option of multiple choice where certain answers result in auto approval or autorejection
@SecondJon I agree, I am skeptical too but it seems valid. The mooning does seem kinda out of place.
@cambridgeport90 typical :) glad you fixed it
@cambridgeport90 If only you had an environment with which you could test if it was working then you could answer this question...
@mngrif Dude not even keto, but man I can fuck one up! I'd imagine in the south there is always some bacon raped steak cooked in a tub of butter on the menu too :)
@mngrif I'm on keto so a mountain of bacon is healthy eating for me. The issue with eating out are all the tempting carb options :)
@SecondJon Very intersting, not surprising. Though I suspect at least some parts he may have still been on his back since it only says his device covered half the space.
@freemo
Not an expert, did find this: "Contrary to myth, Michelangelo did not paint on his back, but on a platform of his own devising that extended over half the area of the chapel and allowed him to stand upright."
