We would like to announce Moderator nominations for June 2020!
We will be selecting a new moderator to join our team this month and we encourage all QOTO users to voice their nominations and votes.
The moderator team has collectively chosen to nominate @Sphinx for the position but as always the moderation process is an open one and any user can nominate themselves or another for the position.

So I've been reviewing our server plan here at QOTO to figure ut an upgrade plan...
The mastodon instance itself runs on a 32 gig memory system that is maxed out and thats costing me about 120/month. The bulk of that cost is the result of our very high federation count (we are the top 20 most federated english servers). We have to process so many external statuses it costs a lot of resources. the advantage means when someone posts your posts federates to the maximum number of public feeds possible, so our users have one of the largest voices in the fediverse. It also means we have a huge database of text searchable toots going back years.
If we want to maintain that level of federation the next step is to double our server costs up to 240$ /month. Thats just for the main mastodon server. Our NextCloud, PeerTube, Gitlab, Funkwhale, and other auxiliary services add somewhere to the tune of 500$ / month on top of that.
I guess this is the price of fame :)

No-go zones are popping up all over the USA, one after another... This shit may really turn into a civil war soon.
There is just a constant sound of sirens in the distance at this point. Most everyone on facebook from Philly is praising the rioters with comments like "let it burn", granted not a damn one of them own property or a business...
So the riots in my city have gotten so bad they have completely blocked off all traffic in center city even during the day. No cars allowed on the road of any kind!

@wolfie @realcaseyrollins @OrganicNectar96 Most trucking companies are sending out notices like these. They're worded pretty carefully and I think, if it comes to a court case, they can protect the drivers. Most trucks have cameras too.
I have some connections in the journalism business, or I suppose more correctly I am their connection...
But one of them reached out to me to get my "inside" perspective on the riots going on in philly. Usually they use me more as an expert in my field so this is a first for me.
Anyway told them about the riots and how the rioters are burning down houses and businesses, sent them the pictures of the smoke filled sky. glad to see this rioting is getting some coverage!
