What it feels like using AWS hosting as the owner of a startup....

Ok everyone we just doubled up the nodes to machines twice as big as well... I hope that should be the last of it to get rid of the sluggishness... Anyone still seeing any slowness on ?

Last one for today. Another poem I wrote, this one Inspired by An Essay on Man by A. Pope.

---

Know your own self, and do not seek the stars;
For what you seek is found in who you are.

Placed here between the heights of heaven and ground,
A creature vast in strength, yet tightly bound.
Too sharp to trust in doubt, too blind to see,
Too frail for pride, too proud for humility.
He walks a line where shadows blur the day,
In doubt to speak, or in silence stay.
In doubt if flesh or thought should take the reign,
Born to endure, yet always to complain.
His mind a storm where reason’s compass fails,
Too quick to chase the wind, too slow to sail.
A whirl of passion, fury, love, and hate,
By his own hand he shapes his fleeting fate.
Made half for joy, yet destined still to weep,
Ruler of all things, yet no secret keep.
In search of truth, yet stumbling in disguise;
A baffled fool, a wonder in disguise.

You might hate it, but it looks like this election will come down to which candidate can win the furry vote.

Can the wings of the wind understand your cry,
O Second of the First, where flames twist high?
In the depths of my jaws, you are framed in fire,
As cups for a wedding, or flowers for desire.
Prepared in beauty for righteousness' room,
Where the heart beats loud through the chamber's gloom.

Stronger your feet than the stone, cold and bare,
Mightier your voices than the wild winds’ stare.
You are a building, not of brick or of wood,
But born from the thought of the All-Powerful, good.
"Arise!" calls the First, from the endless above,
Move toward His servants, in power and love.

Show forth your might, and let the world see,
A seething, a strength that flows endlessly.
For I am of Him who forever shall reign,
In the fire of His truth, untouched by pain.

A toy idea im playing either. I am taking a text from the 17th century that I particularly like (original below) and trying to turn it into a rhyming poem. The above is what I have so far.

---

Can the wings of the winds understand your voices of wonder, oh Second of the First? Whom the burning flames have framed within the depth of my jaws; whom I have prepared as cups for a wedding or as the flowers in their beauty for the chamber of righteousness. Stronger are your feet than the barren stone, and mightier are your voices than the manifold winds; for you are become a building such as is not, but in the mind of the All-Powerful. Arise, says the First; move, therefore, unto his servants; show yourselves in power, and make me a strong seething; for I am of Him that lives forever.

Man my spotify feed is on point today! Fuck yea!

In lands of the dawn where the first light is spun,
There stands a garden where dreams have begun.
Its blossoms, they whisper imbued soft and bright,
As petals reflect both the day and the night.

To enter this realm, leave your burdens behind,
And let your heart soar where the stardust is kind.
A pathway of silver through shadows does lead,
To where time stands still, where wishes are freed.

An archway of vines holds the gate made of stone,
And through it, the winds will carry your own.
The air there is thick with the scent of the earth,
Where love blooms eternal, reborn in its mirth.

Above in the sky, the constellations dance,
Each star a soft echo of fate’s fleeting chance.
Yet hidden from sight is the crescent moon’s glow,
For only the dreamers its secret will know.

A fountain stands tall with its crystal clear stream,
It flows with the light from the heart of a dream.
The water, once still, now shimmers in waves,
And transforms to gold for the soul that is brave.

The fruit of this garden is shared without plea,
Each bite a reminder of life’s mystery.
The wine flows as freely as rivers in spring,
And joy fills the air like the song that they sing.

The dust of the stars fills each chalice with light,
And dragons still guard every blossom in sight.
For who would dare pluck from a dragon’s own tree,
When the heart's true desire lies wild and free?

The glow of the sun, through leaves thickly spread,
Turns moments to gems in their soft ruby red.
Each breath in this place is unwritten, unplanned,
And truth flows like rivers that carve out the land.

In this sacred space, you’ll find there are two—
The sun and the moon, bound in celestial hue.
The gods of the morning and night reunite,
To weave us in stories, in threads of pure light.

So come to this garden, where light and dark play,
Where wishes take flight at the close of the day.
Embrace the sun’s warmth, and let shadows be cast,
For here in this haven, forever will last.

An attempted remix of one of my old poems... Thoughts? I think I like my old one better (link to the original for reference):

jeffreyfreeman.me/blog/the-mag

I have searched for you in the stillness
of winds that speak without voices,
in the heavy night where shadows weave
a tapestry of forgotten dreams.

Your hands, like rivers carved from light,
slip through my longing, through this fog of distance,
and though I cannot touch you,
I feel the pulse of your absence in my bones.
How quiet the world becomes when your touch is missing,
how the earth stands still, waiting for the sound
of your laughter to return like rain
to the desert.

The stars speak of you in their language of glimmer,
and every leaf, every quiet tremor of the earth
whispers your name as though it were
the only word that existed.

I want to hold you as the moon holds the sea,
as roots grip the soil in their secret embrace,
to taste the silence between your breaths
and let the spaces where you are not
be filled with the aching music of love.

What is this life, if not the endless pursuit
of the tender mystery you carry in your heart?
In the quiet hours when the sky blushes
with the first touch of dawn,
I will wait for you in the hollows of the wind,
in the spaces where only we exist—
silent, eternal, whole.

Just a draft, not sure I even like it....

Minor Update: So yesterday we had to tweak some resources server side, despite fixing the 503 with more resources things were still a bit sluggish. We boosted a few more resources (expanded the cluster itself) and now the system seems quite responsive as well.

Please let @freemo know if you expiernce sluggish behavior or errors.

Only thing left to fix that is broken is some UI issues with links. Some of that will actually expose features that are technically working like editing in place and translation capabilities. So as long as nothing else is broken that is more pressing we should have that fixed up in short order and then we can start working on the next version again and get out of cleanup mode.

For those curious our migration to a bigger redis just finished, so any momentary sluggishness from that should now also be fixed.

So seems the upgrade went ok, a few small issues we should have fixed up pretty quick. Here are the broad points.

* This was our first big move over to an entirely new architecture meant for quick upgrades with no down time. Ironically this meant a 2 day down time but the advantage is future upgrades should have very minimal downtime now.

* We Did 5 upgrades in one go, lots of new features as a result, mostly all the new stuff from mastodon combined with the features QOTO already had.

* The new setup was having some 503 errors at first, and it was a out of memory issue. We have since significantly boosted our resources. The system is now much faster and responsive.

Some issues that remain, and when we will have it fixed:

* There are a few small UI issues, the link to your own profile points to the wrong link, and the "local timeline" link is missing to bring it up. We should have those back in place very shortly (probably a day or two).

* There were 503 issues periodically but it should now be fixed, please let me know if anyone sees a 503 again.

* Editing posts in place (instead of delete & edit) now works but it is missing from the menu, so we need to add that.

* Translation features should also be in place, but lacks the link.

If anyone notices any other issues message @freemo . In the meantime give us a day or two and we should have these small issues all resolved, thanks.

I just realized this also makes QOTO a W3C member since its part of my new company and non-profit...

I wonder if is the only fediverse server that is an official member of the W3C, if so that would be cool.

I am now officially an Advisory Committee Representative of the W3C and my new private company has joined the W3C as well! Coooooooool.

@freemo that's an interesting hypothesis. While maybe not always the case, that 20% overlap is indeed suspicious of just being some kind of cyclic adhd-c.
