Ya know those tiny network routers you have on your desk that you use to connect all your computers together and connect to the internet... Well this is what it looked like in the early days when the internet didnt exist as a word yet (It was still called ARPANet). Like most computer devices from the 70's it would take up a nice chunk of the room.

A map of every node on the internet (ARPANet) in 1974, which was exactly 3 years after the network first went live.

It's situations like described above that give reason to support organizations like EFF and FSF

I remember when Eazy E was invited to have dinner with Bush Sr. thanks to a computer glitch. When he showed up the white house CNN was in total panic acting like the apocalypse was amongst us.

In a world of polarized extremes, be the moderate and reasonable middle ground... Too much of anything is a bad thing.

@freemo Yup. Scare people into giving up more freedoms and protections from the government. Scare them enough, and they'll be excited to live under a government as repressive as China's, as long as it's called democracy.

Dr. That is why I want to write the script to make it sell.
Donald Trump had another accomplishment. He proved that Professional wrestling was more realistic and better scripted than U.S. politics. :D

I have written on paper at least 100 ways that the national debt could be resolved.

I'm not a very good citizen due to not caring about the news. I listen to Mathew Lesko, when I visit a local city hall, compliment the lady, bring gifts, and try to make their jobs entertaining.
When using the internet, look at every form as a act of filling out a dating application.

Which of the following logical fallacies do you find most frustrating to hear used?

My latest pickup line:

Me: Are you an accountant?

Her: No, why?

Me: Cause you got one of those finances.

Her: ::blank stare::

Me: Please have sex with me...

Is a vegan ham radio operator called a tofu radio operator? Asking for a friend.

After some research I found a few names used for this in the industry. It is called an "Eye bar", a "Shatner light" or, "Kirk light". Apparently It originated in classic black and white films. I cant verify this but it seems it was either first done or made popular by the 1931 Dracula film (image attached) which at least 3 black and white remakes all used the same Eye bar lighting. It then started to be used in other Genres and films including Star Trek the original series where it was used extensively for Kirk (images attached), thus the name Kirk/Shatner light. It was also used in the Harry Potter movies at least once.

As mentioned in the OP it was so common it was used as a running joke in the Addam's Family films anytime Morticia was in a shot (see the original post for an example).

Anyone know the name of the lighting technique used quite often in classic films, particularly noir filrms, where they would shine a beam of light ...

What is your favorite kind of curd?

Due to recent incidents of people providing obviously bullshit evidence my usual policy of "put up or shut up" and now been reduced to simply "shut up". Thank you for understanding and have a good day. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I officially petition that we change the word "government" in the dictionary to "goober mint"... Who will sign my petition?

My current confidence level in whatever I happen to be working on in my life at any moment is directly inversely proportional to the number of browser tabs I have open at any one time.

I wonder if parents who teach their kid to smile a certain way, specifically encouraging them to "show their teeth" realize just how photogenic they are raising their kids to be. Whenever I see an adult smiling that on a camera it looks so bizarre and forced it takes a willful effort me to not show the cringe on my face.

Ya'll out there looking like this.

Pros of having chest hair: finding popcorn in it hours after you ate for a surprise snack!
