Ya know those tiny network routers you have on your desk that you use to connect all your computers together and connect to the internet... Well this is what it looked like in the early days when the internet didnt exist as a word yet (It was still called ARPANet). Like most computer devices from the 70's it would take up a nice chunk of the room.

A map of every node on the internet (ARPANet) in 1974, which was exactly 3 years after the network first went live.

It's situations like described above that give reason to support organizations like EFF and FSF
@freemo Yup. Scare people into giving up more freedoms and protections from the government. Scare them enough, and they'll be excited to live under a government as repressive as China's, as long as it's called democracy.
re: cursed
After some research I found a few names used for this in the industry. It is called an "Eye bar", a "Shatner light" or, "Kirk light". Apparently It originated in classic black and white films. I cant verify this but it seems it was either first done or made popular by the 1931 Dracula film (image attached) which at least 3 black and white remakes all used the same Eye bar lighting. It then started to be used in other Genres and films including Star Trek the original series where it was used extensively for Kirk (images attached), thus the name Kirk/Shatner light. It was also used in the Harry Potter movies at least once.
As mentioned in the OP it was so common it was used as a running joke in the Addam's Family films anytime Morticia was in a shot (see the original post for an example).
An airplane that uses soap film for the wings is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.
I wonder if parents who teach their kid to smile a certain way, specifically encouraging them to "show their teeth" realize just how photogenic they are raising their kids to be. Whenever I see an adult smiling that on a camera it looks so bizarre and forced it takes a willful effort me to not show the cringe on my face.
Ya'll out there looking like this.
