@freemo
It's helpful to learn some of the history about this, thanks!

The community is starting to grow started a little while back but I should think the number joining up today will soar.
Trying to grow my follow list to make my feed more varied. If you’re interested in give me a follow and I’ll follow back

Many thanks to people like @freemo who manage servers in their own time, using their own resources.

I'm senior researcher at (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and (Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris).

I'm executive editor at TEKTONIKA twitter.com/WeAreTektonika (a DOA journal not yet on Mastodon), and advocate of , free

Just moving from Twitter to Mastodon, and learning how to use it. Will keep the two accounts alive, at least for some time…

With this new twitter exodus surge developing looks like ill be at 30k followers by the end of the day. Who wants to celebrate with a beer?

I never expected Musk to go to such great lengths to promote the fediverse.... but here we are.

@freemo I think we're at that inflection point. I'm in the industry and hearing that they're going to be left with less than a skeleton crew in the next few weeks. Can't maintain a site of that scale with no man power.

I'm really glad I started developing a cross platform client to help with my transition from , because, yo, I think it's happening at scale now.

@freemo If an admin of a instance didn't post a correlation now and then, I think we'd be concerned. Have a great weekend doc.

Local news just called a $44 billion dumpster fire - couldn’t agree more.

One of my pals told me my Twitter comments were as viscous as AOC and Nancy Pelosi. I though everyone’s were like that! I just got used to it. As much as you can. It’s nothing short of astounding to me that I can just post and engage on here and people respond in a way that seems normal and real. The Twitter comments world is distorted and dangerous. I don’t see how twitter can be fixed. We’re better off here. ❤️

Today's good news was a software engineer in my lab found an accidental memory allocation in our real-time video analysis code, and now 99.99% (up from 98%) of the time it runs as fast as we thought it should when we did a back-of-the-envelope calculation way back when. I like when computers behave as I expected them to.

I am so fucking thrilled to see so many of you here. I love every last one of you. Never forget that. We can make it work here. If you have questions, there's lots of people to help. Don't give up. Let me know.

I’m going to miss Twitter. But. It couldn’t have happened to a better company (before Musk). It did not allow speech - it required groupthink. Both on the Left and Right. We have a better environment here to talk freely where you can be in a safe environment based on the community you join. My point is to just be fair. And let us hear both sides and to decide for ourselves. I’m of the lib side on most things, but sometimes we went too far in excoriating the other side.

@freemo Only been here a short while so far, but it feels nice to see the interesting STEM related stuff here and inclusion. Honestly haven’t come across anyone bigoted on this server either. I understand the desire to not platform bigoted people, though blanket bans don’t seem to solve anything either

The twitter outages graph looks remarkably similar to the mastodon new user graph.... just saying ;)

This will be a day for the pages of history.
High intensity drama is coming.
