@dsfgs spot on about the climate justice people ignoring all other issues, often making them worse!

@kyonshi Let me know if interested in community / smaller work investing in people

(maybe not so much IT BUT also you might have ideas to boost it)

see post example of a community I mean:

@joshbressers Maybe not of help but I think we all are unsung and with a be of preparation we can bring even normal people to keep things going... there is a hook there somewhere...

the superorganism will never *voluntarily* decide to stop growing....

@nonlinear

The on this is good I think it's worth pasting it in plain text so more people can read it plainly:

[short version: first]

" the superorganism will never *voluntarily* decide to stop growing. "

[full version:]

@michael mezzatesta
"this paper blew my mind… i first published this video a couple years ago, and i want to reshare it now that @natehagens is on Instagram. his work has meaningfully changed my thinking about the future.

there’s lots in the paper i didn’t have time to discuss here, including: the ways human psychology at scale creates the superorganism dynamic, the ways we’ve used fracking to (briefly) extend our lifeline of cheap fossil energy, and the ways our financial system is using debt to maintain growth rates that no longer correspond to physical reality. that last point is something i’ll be sharing more about soon.

Nate would probably disagree with my point at the end that we have a “choice” to navigate this transition gracefully, because he says the superorganism will never *voluntarily* decide to stop growing. i’ve been holding onto the belief that a willful shift to a different socioeconomic model is possible, which is part of why i make these videos.

he’s been speaking on this topic for decades — for more of his work, check out his YT channel and his podcast called “the great simplification.” i also recommend reading the paper, which is titled “Economics for the future — Beyond the superorganism” and is available for free online.

This is the peak of bicycle technology.

It's a bike which a local customer brought around yesterday because it's been a few years and she thought it was about time that someone had a look at it.

I know it looks terribly old fashioned, but hear me out:

This is a reasonably light-weight, efficient bike, with effective gearing and brakes. Nothing on it is unmaintainable.

This bike came out of the factory in 1982 (May 1982 according to the stamp on the rear hub). It has admittedly had a fairly good life, always having been kept indoors, but it's been ridden a lot yet needed almost no work.

The front rack had a broken non-essential part which I removed. The rubber strap / snelbinder over the rear carrier rack was broken so I replaced it, and the skirtguards were perished and falling apart so I replaced those as well. Otherwise, I've just checked that things were working and added a bit of oil. One of the pedals was running roughly until I oiled it.

Bike shops don't sell bicycles like this any more. Modern bicycles are not designed to last a whole lifetime, like these were.

@smolbrain @electricmood well, it turns out that I thought I loved computers but actually I love people

Boosts are now showing how many times there were boosted!

@NeuKelte I like it - 2nd half could be laid out / shown better.
Having an audio chat meet on Thurs 12 noon UK if interested?

@rabbit74 I got from the 'another way of looking at it' that the text it might be about:

➡️ showing that you could put people into a formation from the way info was presented

and / or

➡️ the way people think is a bit fickle like that, true or not or as a cynical comment or not, and naturally or not... we are a bit fickle or imperfect, copying others, taking wrong signs, maintaining tribal identities etc

The above might be repeating what was said as somewhat simpler, and doesn't negate anything you said.

We can't individually reply to everyone struggling individually, so we're going to write this post instead 🥺

You do matter.
If you think you're a bad person, your mind is lying to you.No actually bad person worries that they're a bad person.
You are worthy of kindness, friendship, and love.
You do deserve joy and happiness.

We know we can't reach, help, support, or save you all, however much we might wish we could 😞

What we can do is write this post.

If it helps at least someone, even just for a moment, then it was worth writing :MentalHealthFlagButterfly:

My work on #Nomadic Identity over ActivityPub was stalled for a bit. Nomadic identity itself isn't that hard. It's the migration to upgrade folks from non-nomadic accounts that is the challenge.

Finally found a way to move forward again.  The actor record itself now has three different "views", which are selected by options. The traditional ActivityPub view, the nomadic ActivityPub view, and the exportable view - which can be imported into any other nomadic ActivityPub application or project. So to perform the Move operation and get all your followers onto the new identity, we'll just switch views - depending on what URL you access. Still a few loose ends to work out, but it's coming along.

@skeletor FYI image sizes:
PNG vs JPG

The image size is 1.37mb (+ federated)

Could be 365kb as a JPG...

So idea is to use version rather than easy copy n' paste or PNG which your image is.

Hi I'm Mike. I've been around the Fediverse for a while. I created the Friendica, RedMatrix, Hubzilla, Osada, and Zap projects. I developed the DFRN, Zot/Zot6 and OWA protocols.

My software does some pretty cool stuff, but I'm not out to win any popularity contests and world domination isn't my thing. I played a non-trivial role in creating the modern internet and now I'm investing my time and energy creating ethical alternative services to bring back a real sense of privacy and self-determination.

I have a modest farm in Bugger All, Australia and raise cows, horses, and chooks. I drink kickass #homebrew and play a mean #guitar.

Have a great day.
Osada 2.0 released

Merry Xmas from Zotlabs.

Osada is an easy to use social network server of the blogging or "conversational" persuasion running over the ActivityPub protocol.  There's a great deal of mature and proven functionality available as the underlying codebase has been developed since 2001 and part of the fediverse since 2010.
