Many of us are migrating from US services to EU based ones, so I would like to give a warning, services like #mailbox and #posteo are great, very good value for money, based in Germany, private and secure, however there is a clause that can make you pause, if you fail to pay and don't do it within 30 days your account will be deleted.

From mailbox T&Cs | Cancellation policy

"Your account with mailbox.org is a prepaid account. If you do not deposit credit, or if the deposited credit runs out, then your account will be deleted after 30 days (Section 6 of our General Terms and Conditions). After another 30 days we delete all the Data that we stored for you (Section 5 of our General Terms and Conditions)."

It may not seem terrible, but if it is your main or only email account you may lose everything if you are unable to top up your account for some reason (like going on vacation to the US and being detained for no reason)

This is probably not an issue for many, but I think that it is something worth mentioning because some may not be aware while signing (although this bubble is likely to read the TOS in full) , services like #tuta and #protonmail at least have a free backup plan.

been thinking of getting a non-google email. anyone know a service thats good and that I can try out without fear of it becoming expensive/bad in the future?

I’m changing if it works reliably, has (most of) its codebase open source, and can be trusted to not forward data from my emails to arbitrary buyers. I’d be ok with paying a small fee for it if its really good!

Ideally I’d setup my own email server, but that isn’t a real possibility for me within the near future.

#privacy #email

@markpitblado @adam We do! While it's available on the Google Play Store it's also available on F-Droid and on our GitHub repo as an APK (github.com/thunderbird/thunder)

#yahoo #email wants me to agree to their T&C in order to attach a document from my phone to an email. This is unbelievable. Speechless. #ProtonMail

Money's design itself is for centralising power via debt...

Money's design itself is for centralising power via debt...

...greed, power to create money exclusively (monopoly), usury pyramids, all going back to centre to then amplify back again using to people

Closing in on people with everything money connects to...

Examples of too much power:

🔴 Indirect / Ownership of Debt

🔴 Possession of / Paperwork

🔴 - / /

🔴 Fiddling the / cheating for private gains

🔴 Funding / helping bullying smaller countries / get leverage using finance etc!

money = a on people

(it's not or without it's own of how to get power and treat people as just numbers and use them for more / .

@freemo Blocking servers... Any chance you could list which servers block us on from your own experience / reports from people?

Helps look up if I'm being ignored
or server is unreaachable. etc..

@realcaseyrollins

I would continue to defend your right to speech. You dont see me threatening to block you at an instance or even a personal level do you?

You are supporting an enemy of the state if you are supporting Trump at this point. But even then you dont hear me trying to silence you.

@Foxboron the fire in the background is not a volcano but the wildfires caused by climate change after over-consumption of electricity to by AI companies in Silicon Valley.

@simon_brooke I've just flashed 3 devices with #eOS and like with Aurora on CalyxOS, apps from Google Play can be installed anonymously and I've not found any problem yet: banking, e2e messaging, fediverse and my news apps works just like on stock Android, thanks to microG I guess.

#Fediverse #Trust + #idea = GIVING TRUST TO GET TRUST....?

GIVING TRUST TO GET TRUST....

needs to be 'installed' / Trust spread better.

A way to else you have but nobody practising.

Because online are not able to USE the social software - it's not just the software to develop but users to actually use it and find a way to trust more often (which opens doing things a lot more).

GIVING TRUST TO GET TRUST....

So just jumping in and giving trust to get trust or a small arena people can know it's managed / moderated a bit...

AI Label... what would you want it to say?

@lillyfinch @kkarhan @freeschool @hzulla @m @DarkOptimism @mdione @walkinglampshade @JR_Kelly @vic

Humans never exercise "due diligence". We just rush to market, for profit, or to war. It's characteristic of our species, I think. 😐

"People are starting to think of stuff that has been worked on by AI to be "better" than a mere human could have done; "enhanced", as you say. This is, I think, a Very Bad Mistake."

Love this clip from @molly0xfff's Fediverse House talk:

"Imagine for a moment a web where communities can create their own spaces while still simultaneously and seamlessly interoperating with others. Think of it like a network of independent neighborhoods, each with its own character and rules, but with shared community spaces, art galleries and libraries.

"In this web, you control what you create and decide how it's shared.The algorithms that shape that experience, they're transparent and customizable. You can peek under the hood or tweak them to your liking or replace them entirely if they're not serving your needs. If you're sharing a space with a group of others and you disagree with how they run that space, you can leave, but you can take your work and your community with you.

"This isn't just a dream. This is already happening. Take Mastodon and the broader Fediverse, where millions of people are building communities that talk to each other across servers and platforms."

Fighting words from @molly0xfff's opening talk at the Fediverse House at SXSW 2025:

“We're facing an existential threat. We need a web that serves people not profit, a web built on protocols, not platforms…It's being built right now by people like you in communities like this one.”

Thank you, developers and denizens of the open social web.🙏🏼

“We can build the web we want to see.” @molly0xfff kicked off XOXO 2024's conference with a hopeful talk about building Web3 Is Going Just Great, and how we can “push the web back towards the wonderful, joyful, beautiful place it used to be.” xoxofest.com/2024/videos/molly
