I let predictive text determine my New Year’s Resolution and it said “I will stop taking things for granite.” And, you know what? That’s bang on! I’m sick of all this schist.

More intrepid reporting from over the hill! There is a deep and definitive chill to middle age. Like my metabolism is stuck in neutral and can’t rev the engine to warm up. Kinda looking forward to these hot flashes I’ve heard about. At least there will be periods of warmth.

In my house, my husband does most of the cooking. This wants to know “who-cooks-for-you?”

A big part of my advice to students on is that less is more.
Don’t open unnecessary cans of worms! Better to leave it out entirely than to gesture at it vaguely but not take the time to cover it thoroughly. And you simply can’t include EVERYTHING.
It shouldn’t be a log of everything you have read or, worse!, a flex to prove how widely read you are. It’s great to think broadly about connections to your research, but focused writing will be more clear and compelling.

I’ve hit middle age and so far the biggest surprise is the discovery is that middle-aged women wear scarves because their necks are actually cold all the time. It has nothing to do with fashion. I’ll report back as I learn more.

I declare it is a crying shame that @TheTweetOfGod didn’t commit fully and become TheTootOfGod.
