People who use proprietary software should be automatically diagnosed with mental retardation

@matrix @hj I am looking at this for like 30th time and i am still laughing :cate:

@david_orr i am not saying you should i am trying to explain to you how the concept of engagements works on social networks :D

Figure out what you like and then go follow the relevant people or hashtags is usually the way to go on mastodon

@david_orr So the way to get mastodon seem more lively is to follow people with high engagements e.g. make a list of popular people on mastodon docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d

And you will get a wall full of endless replies which is basically what twitter does just on more sophisticated level

@david_orr For example on twitter you get AI that is manipulating people's opinions through various promoting and shadow bans the unpopular opinions (as those lower engagement) to display popular posts with high engagement while censoring the rest of the people so that's why that platform and alike seems more engaged compared to mastodon.

KREYREN :verified: boosted

@david_orr btw. on mastodon you can see the active posters in the domain.tl/explore e.g. mastodon.social/explore

to pick people you want to follow

@david_orr The federated timeline is that way as it's showing messages from all users across fediverse.

So you will see a lot of new users and users with not much followers in super majority

If you want to see more engaged posts then go follow popular people and then it will be in the local timeline or make a list for things that interest you

@david_orr guess be more fun so that people engage? :P
