In response to criticism of the Fediverse I've read today, and to some very uninformed comments I've read on Twitter from Musk supporters about firing most of Twitter's employees, I want to talk about what I know about the technical side of running a social service.

The short answer is: it ain't easy and it ain't cheap.

It's not always about the horses for me. Mostly but not always. This time of year, I can be found in eastern NC photographing our large black bear population. This guy came out of a corn field about 15 yards from me. Never heard him, just felt his presence. Wow!

@freemo Yeah I too run a Friendica instance and I never de-federeated. This is getting old for me already, and I kept screaming about this for a while now. A bunch of admins on the fediverse act like Musk I swear. Quickly block other instances in the name of thousands or millions. Non transparent too.

I have no clue what's the issue here....I've been on the fediverse for 2 years now.....where are these trolls and idiots and nazi and child porn? I have seen none. Maybe because I carefully select who I want to follow and if anyone is a troll I block them immediately. Simple. Works great. Thus, users has a tremendous power at taking care of themselves and new tools/options can improve the situation, such as the ability to mute comments on your posts or only accept comments from your friends, or block lists that individuals can enable for themselves, and so on.

De-federation is a very primitive and destructive behavior.

#fediblock #twittermigration #feditip #psa If you don't agree with a person (that's not violating rules) DON'T REPORT THEM! Report if there's a violation of the rules. It wastes moderators time. If you disagree (again not violating rules) block or mute. But I suspect some of the reporting is deliberate trolling on it's own like twitter rw and far left fratting brigades that would mass report because politics. Think before reporting!

@marathon0 I'm staying with Twitter for now. This place is a gated community; I hope that changes. Afaic, this account is just for connecting with people who might get bumped from Twitter and come here (I follow Chad Loder here), but while many of my regular Twitter friends now have Mastodon accounts, only one seems to actually use it.

To expose Eiugen on yet another lie... here is a link to all the changes that occured to our ToC over the last 6 months. As can clearly be seen the only changes made were stronger protections for the LGBTQ and a removal of the phrase "free speech".

Which means the only perceived changes he could mean are either greater protections to LGBTQ groups or he is caving tto the misinformation spread by snow.

I already cover the emails (which were sent only to admins with email addresses that welcomed administrative contact). They servered the purpose of alerting them as to Snow's disinformation and an attempt to set the record straight.
