Welcome!
@mingtang Welcome to our instance and the Fediverse, MingTang!
Are you familiar with Mastodon and the general concepts? If not, I usually recommend a couple of good guides for new users. Those below :
Enjoy the network and all it has to offer. If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: https://lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-guide-to-mastodon-1828503235
We also have another new users guide, posted here : https://write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggestions-and-guidelines-for-new-users-written-by-mastodon-art-administrator
@design_RG Thanks very much. I've known the general concepts of the Fediverse by Chinese guidance before
@mingtang Very good, ask any questions you need. Have a good evening!
@mingtang howdy. I recall reading a few years ago that many Chinese people avoid helping the injured for fear of getting taken advantage of, even when they had nothing to do with the injury. It seems to be "a real thing" (http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1072095.shtml). Is it something that you've ever been affected by or is it something you've had to consider?
@2ck that's real. and the reason is several years ago, there are severe cases that the elder injured one who accepted help claims for compensation from the one offering help but not the hit-and-runner.
it had been a hot topic. I'm not sure whether these years this situation is getting better, perhaps yes due to the surveillance system
@mingtang I could see how that would be a concern. The weirdest thing to me about that story was that it was paired with stories like that described here: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2015/09/why-drivers-in-china-intentionally-kill-the-pedestrians-they-hit-chinas-laws-have-encouraged-the-hit-to-kill-phenomenon.html
I could understand not helping injured victims as a result of the bystander effect, but the "hit to kill" thing made me sick. Like, I can't imagine myself or anyone who isn't already a hardened criminal killing someone like that.
@mingtang Welcome. Thanks for your offer!
@mingtang Hi, its great to have you!
