@freemo Super reactive 👍 . Ok, I've had a remark and read (https://mstdn.social/@layeredstrange/109314189803424648) that uploading a video (direct mp4) can put a high burden on mastodon instances, and it's preferable to link videos from streaming services (peertube, youtube, vimeo). Do you confirm ? If I put videos from qoto.org, is the burden put on qoto.org only or on other instances as well ? If it's on qoto only, what's the qoto limit then ?
@freemo Thanks for all your work for this instance btw! And is there any way to support your work and the infrastructure ? I looked at https://qoto.org/about/more and didn't see anything obvious
@freemo sorry 😅 , where's the source repo ? Is it the github mastodon ? https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon . Or this one ? https://git.qoto.org/qoto/qoto ? The last commit was two years ago. Is it out of sync with the github repo ?
@freemo any chance to have this script working on Qoto ? Or better: enabled by default
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/454111-resize-o-don
(sorry if you're not the person to ask, I'm still discovering how things are working 😅 )
A #mastodontip for those using the advanced multi-column layout: you can use the "resize-o-don" user script (within a user-script management browser extension like TamperMonkey) to freely resize each columns by dragging the bottom-right corner: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/454111-resize-o-don
I have a basic etiquette question that I haven't been able to find an answer to. My apology for any redundancy.
As an AI artist, which I know is a bit controversial itself, I do like to share pieces I've created. I've been doing this on instagram (https://www.instagram.com/shadowsonawall/ if content would affect the answer) and wonder if sharing here might not be the better long-term option.
The question then: is it rude to use the server's hard drive space for my art? Is there a limit of images that is considered polite/tolerable? Is this a bad idea from the outset?
MBARI video of swimming sea cucumbers. I did not know they swam.
@peterdrake you got it! It's a Java lambda Consumer, and I forgot the reference to the argument...
`opener -> opener.close()`
...creating a silent stack overflow.
BTW does anybody know how to share/format code snippets with mastodon ?
@nKiaru Not sure entirely what's going on here, but maybe close() should be super.close()?
Have you discovered the image processing forum yet? https://forum.image.sc

@PCRVince Thanks! I tried to put a youtube link, but it doesn't autoplay. I understand the limitation, I'll refrain from uploading direct videos then.
Success! The video looks very nice, and one can even retrieve the original file with right-click + Save Video As... 👍
Awesome!
Quick video explanation: it looks a bit crude, but it's actually a dataset made of 100 stacked 'big' 2D images (~10kPix x 10kPix, 3 channels, 110Gb uncompressed). Each 2D image is non-linearly deformed to match an underlying 3D atlas (white outlines). There are ~ 120k degrees of freedom in the deformation field, which is computed on the fly, on a regular laptop, with three orthogonal synchronized views.

Hello #ScienceMastodon!
I'm a microscopist and image analyst at the BIOP imaging center at EPFL in Switzerland.
I'll be sharing mostly nerd stuff about #ImageJ/#FijiSc. Can't wait to see if the scientific mastodon community takes off!
So, let's get serious: can we share videos here? Let's find out:
