I see, however probably this should not be adjusted to inflation as we're basically observing the price of a commodity compared with salary.

I ask mainly to understand on what version of mastodon are we.
I have problems with the hashtag subscription: it works in the webpage but using the fedilabs application it does not list existing subscriptions and does not let me add new ones.
The application GitHub has no issues about it, thus I believe this is an instance problem.
I remember qoto had hashtag subscription before Mastodon had, is that maybe related?

The combiflash might have died ("internal fraction collection error: fraction collector is unable to leave front-back home sensor"). First it clogged. And while working the clog out under manual control the system freaked out. One of the rare times I use manual control with fraction collection (and not just direct to waste).
Might have a small amount of material, but to make life more fun the bulk of the product crashed out on the column before this happened. This was a 1 g reaction, late stage of synthesis with many steps. There are 100s of mg of product. That's light sensitive. The column is 120 g with 192 column volume, so manual elution with a syringe isn't going to be a thing (my largest is 60 mL).
I want to cry. Or break something. I'll take either.

The US government just amended its Maduro indictment because someone who speaks Spanish finally told them that Cártel de los Soles is a Venezuelan euphemism for corruption and not actually a cartel.
I wish I were making this shit up but it's real. If they convict Maduro after that, you can one and truly know this was not a trial but a real life theatrical performance.

I need university administrators (and probably some other people too, but definitely university administrators) to understand something: you cannot motivate your faculty to do more research or better teaching.
They are already maximally motivated people. They did not get the job by being unmotivated. A good chunk of them have more motivation than is healthy for them.
Any action you take to "motivate" them is going to be demotivational. Any of them. Yes, even that one that you just thought of. Yes, even the one you heard about from one of your peers at a different institution that you're jealous of.
Lean in close, here's the secret: all you have to do is (a) support them in doing their jobs, and (b) not fuck things up.

Dear university, please: never ever contact me unless you want to give me money. Then we're good and our is a good working relationship.
But no: I don't want to know what the secretary thinks about it, I don't want to know what documents they think I should be filling up, I don't want to know the stupid reasons someone from the administration came up with such stupid requirements.
Just ask the secretary to fill those documents for me, and we'll be good.

it's incredible how Anna's Archive has anti-design (forcing you to wait or slow downloads for free users, making you copy-paste URLs etc.) plus it's increasingly blocked by various providers, and it's *still* significantly easier for me to download a book there than through academic publishers, even when I have authorised access to the latter

Vivo con coinquilini e sono uomo. Potrei permettermi di vivere da solo, al costo di ridurre abbastanza il quantitativo che risparmio.
Vi è la possibilità che il mio stipendio aumenti significativamente e non credo che ciò cambi le cose, mentre all'incontrare un partner con cui convivere chiaramente ciò cambierebbe.
Preferisco vivere con coinquilini. A Roma vi è stato un breve periodo in cui il coinquilino l'ho trovato qui su Mastodon!
Ora vivo con una famiglia con due bimbe piccole. Per quanto stiamo bene insieme, sto considerando trovare un altro luogo decente da affittare e poi trovarmi dei coinquilini con cui condividerlo.
Mi manca un po' invitare gente a cena qualunque giorno della settimana e non avere problemi, o restare con amici fino alle 4 del mattino senza la preoccupazione di svegliare le bimbe.
