I heard a sermon once about turning the other cheek. The Priest was very clear that what people THINK it means - let the other guy beat you up - is NOT what it means.
He was saying, "It means take a breath, give it a minute, and make sure your motives are governed by something other than your anger. Then do what needs to be done."
