Every time chick fil-a is in the news I have to remind myself that they weren't financing ISIL by buying ancient Syrian relics for creepy Book of Revelations reasons like nazi occultists in Indiana Jones, that was the yarn store.

THIS WEEK IN MALE VIOLENCE
11/18/19 — 11/25/19

---

Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, @4WPub is launching a weekly series highlighting stories on male violence across the world. You can submit stories to me if you've like them to be included.

@pschwede The news should mostly just be inclusive of who said what, and what evidence there is for a particular story, regardless of a conclusion.

Think of it more like science. A good journal worthy paper is like journalistic integrity. In other words, it does research in order to answer a particular question, buit provides all the data, especially the contradictory stuff, and any conclusion drawn is driven by the data.

Now the problem is with journalists there is no peer review in the same sense. So **we** as readers need to be the peer review. That means when we see bias from a new organization, we deny them credibility. If we see them selecting data to support a narrative rather than concluding a narrative from the data, then we likewise deny them credibility.

I sometimes think I'm overly worried about exposing services on my home network to the internet. I've had configured to be LAN-only since I installed it, and the only service I run on the open internet is the VPN so I can get access to my system remotely.

Have I been fooled by the internet equivalent of health class scare tactics where any sort of sexual activity = instant STDs and pregnancy?

Disappointed to hear that apparently the Nike Blazer Mid '77s are apparently not all that comfortable to wear. At $100 a pair I probably won't be getting them.

Apparently there were trainers that feel a lot better but IDK.

Why did Ricky Rock redo his vocals for the remix of 2 Legit, even though his original vocals were way better?

Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the internet, has come out of the woodwork with a plan to fix his misbehaving child: cnbc.com/amp/2019/11/25/tim-be

It's mostly relating to data privacy, corporate control, and misinformation. I think this is a great step, although we also need to be thinking about the social impacts of the internet: mob behavior, division, isolation, etc.

From the archives of my blog but still very relevant: "pytz: The Fastest Footgun in the West", about why you probably shouldn't be using pytz:

Its a by-line, so its meant to be more of a summary than a detail. The text below outlines it in more detail and where the boundaries are.
