@arunmani @mastodonindians That's okay. You should do it. The good thing about CSE is getting a job is comparatively easier. You can try for PSUs but also in parallel have a job if the former didn't happen at first attempt.

As I said in the post, I feel government jobs should be treated as a plan B, and not plan A. You shouldn't abandon everything in life and only prepare for government jobs. That is the only problem, and IMO a lot of people (atleast from the core sector) do that.

@crmsnbleyd@emacs.ch I feel like we have largely two types of people, when it comes to the section who is finding it hard to land a job.

1. Who doesn't look at the job market at all. See and evaluate the demand. Introspect whether they're suitable or not. I mostly talked about them here.

2. Another group only looks at the job market and see the skills that are there in demand. They don't evaluate whether they'll be a good fit. (Had written about them here: ordinaryanalysis.substack.com/)

I feel you need to find a tradeoff between the two. It can be core, non-core, business, sports management whatever.

And for TCS, yes I agree. They don't have a great career development path. But still, I think they're a good starting point for anyone. All my friends, who started from TCS almost 5 years back, have left and joined prestigious MNCs with good pay packages. 3-4x of what they were making at TCS.

@trinsec @freemo @silvercloudfox Aah okay. Makes sense.

I was thinking he just wants to milk more money and force people to pay for Twitter. Specially the Twitter addicts.

@trinsec @freemo @silvercloudfox I also wonder what is the rationale behind selecting that particular number: 300, 600, or whatever.

Is it a data driven selection or just random?

In any case addresing it as "extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation" seemed a bit lame too.

Dear Twitter people. Lots of us were once Twitter people too. This place will not spoon-feed you. Passive participation doesn’t work here. This is a very active and buzzing place, but unless you FOLLOW people and INTERACT, it will pass you by.

Follow people. Lots of them. You can always remove them later. But really, follow early, follow often.

@lucifargundam @freemo @mapto Some instances might be facing that problem.

But I have hardly seen QOTO facing that. Magic of Dr. @freemo and other Admins.

@freemo @mapto @lucifargundam Haha. Told the same thing to my friend who saw his limit being exceeded. P

@dev_nadine My only purpose of using Twitter now is to get the news. I hope an alternative to that emerges soon!

@lucifargundam @freemo Yeah same. I have been on-off, semi-active since 2019. Haven't noticed them.

In the discussion on algorithmic content delivery there seems to be a different side of it missed. Algorithms don't have to be used to smartly give you more content, they can also smartly choose what to display if you want less of it.

If you follow people who post a lot but only a part of their posts interests you as much as others', a pure chronological timeline is very sub-optimal. An algorithm can make you a timeline that prioritises the kinds of posts you like and de-prioritises ones you don't, so you get maximum value per watched posts, decreasing as the important new posts run out and the less important ones get presented. This can reduce FOMO of "I'm sitting here for a long time but haven't caught up on all the posts of my favourite people". This is something I remember Twitter doing pretty well, except of course with also inserting random crap it thinks you'd like in-between.

Furthermore, it doesn't have to be a learning algorithm that requires tracking your data, it can be a "dumb" one that simply has priorities set based on some qualifiers (author, keywords, the like) and creates a mix of mostly higher priority posts with some lower priority ones. It can all be configurable.

The fediverse with its open nature allowing one to choose their servers, clients and if they appear algorithms has a big potential for better UX that we're refusing by the allergic reaction to any mention of algorithms.
