MongoDB node.js client is deprecating callbacks. Is this good or bad? I don't like it because, ugh, going back through old code.

@admitsWrongIfProven

Well I've got it on a dedicated server, so it runs much faster because it's on a beast of a server, especially for compile times. It can track developer edits, and the need of merging is mitigated by real time collaborative editing, so if I wanted to, I can watch my programmers coding in real time and jump in if I want. Handling support requests and issues, I just built a tool for that and because Ché is web based, it's easy enough just to add links to files that are being tracked. The other magic trick it can do is spool up testing environments / containers / vm on the fly. That's more useful in practice than I thought it would be. It's super flexible, it's community strength is low/medium. If you're dumb like me, you can use it to edit itself in a separate container, and if you're modifications are good, migrate the modified source and it's live.

For the bad:
It's very resource intensive.
Installation/configuration nightmare.
Modifications are difficult.
It's one of those things I poked with a stick for a year before using it.

For my purposes though, we mostly build algorithms and backends, for that it's great.

IntelliJ.. wow haven't heard that name in a while.

@admitsWrongIfProven lol I wouldn't cry from that but I got pretty depressed once having to rebuild a backend with ssh and nano, that's the closest I've been to development tears.

@admitsWrongIfProven We have to have total control over the development environment for security/legal reasons so everything we use is self hosted. So we've been using Eclipse Ché

I've never used gitlab before, not bad ,I wish I could use it for my company, but nope..

@ambulocetus Ah but I don't want to get the nice crickets, just that special one.

Omicron sounds so ominous, yet the affects are supposedly weaker. They should have called it Covid-Lite or something.

**Disclaimer, it began as a stupid thought, and ended a stupid thought.

@wjbeaver Much the way a car is an extremely powerful chair, and a buzz is a high-powered armored bench. Love this post!

@Lobster yes.. but so is Mr. Smith. It's funny how bias works eh?

P.S. I could also use some advice about a real cricket.

I like the sound of nature at night, but sometimes you get a death metal cricket that just shreds outside your window. If you've ever gone outside to find, and shoe away this raging cricket with a flashlight, eagerly searching through the grass, you would know it seldom ends in success. Later we are often washed with a feeling of ridiculousness. If the cricket is persistent in 'one upping' the sound of a fully spooled jet engine nightly, would we destroy the whole yard? If we did, and it simply moved to the neighbors yard, would we build a giant wall and disown the neighbor? Probably not. As the cricket problem grows, we would eventually need to work together.

How do you think this applies to Mastadon?

Do you have advice on how to silence the renegade crickets of social media?

@NehaKhazanchi
Let me just clarify, I'm not Indian. But I am an insomniac programmer who drinks enough coffee it would cause an elephant to go into cardiac arrest. I like Ethiopian and Sumatran coffees. Honestly, I'm not sure if I've ever had Indian coffee. But when it comes to tea, there is no match for Indian tea, and also Indian recipes for tea. India rules the world in terms of tea. I don't even know what types, they've all been the best. I guess I should try the coffee.. anyone got a recommendation?

@sozialwelten well a silent majority can be given opportunities via polling right?

From a branding perspective, makes sense to move the hashtag for uniformity

@freemo Society does this, that's why there's countries independent from one another. The internet is the same as land. Domains and servers are real estate. The earth wasn't born with borders other than land and sea, we made them. So let's assume there will be multiple federations. What will the passports look like? Will there be flags? Will any of them ever transition into a legitimately recognized nation? While these are dangerous questions.. they're legitimate.

@garyackerman ok, why is a rhinoceros not a dinosaur? If we excuse the fact it's not a reptile. Even it's name.. rhino-saurus. 😁 Have a good day Gary.

@farooqkz most programmers don't contribute to society. You're a hero to me 👍
