@darniil Rufus was also diagnosed with idiopathic vestibular disorder. I hope if there is anything permanent that the head tilt is the only issue he has to deal with. He is 13 years old and I don't want what time he has left to be suffering.

@Spring Thank you so very much! This is the first time I have ever had to deal with something like this and it has been stressful.

#Rufus Update
Day 4
We had our follow up visit yesterday. The vet believes he is improving (though this was her first time seeing him since the initial event was treated at the emergency vet). If I had to put a number to it I would say he is 40% better. His walking has improved, He can walk on the hard wood flooring in the house as long as he is careful. The vertigo seems to have subsided for the most part. His eye movements are minimal. However the balance is still heavily affected and the head tilt is still pretty severe. Also he swings his head about pretty badly.
They tested his ears again and again it came back with no infection, but he screamed when they tested his left ear so there must be something going on in there. The vet sent him home with Antibiotics and more anti-nausea meds and we will monitor the situation.
My main concern right now is to get him eating and drinking again normally and making sure he does not hurt himself trying to move around. I really hope this clears up soon. He is currently snoozing behind me in my office.

@klillington It is indeed frightening. Especially since it happened almost two months to the day that we lost his brother - which was unexpected and extremely hard on me and I imagine him as well. Ever since Buster died he has been much more clingy with me - which made him being separated from me in the hospital all the worse for him. The vet reported he was very anxious and would not let them perform any of the procedures that needed to be done. He ultimately needed to be sedated - which itself is scary as he also has a mid-grade heart murmur.
@klillington Thank you for the kind words. He has a harness on that I am using to help him get up and walk around. I also walk on the right of him so if he stumbles I am there for him to lean on.
Update on #Rufus
This morning is a little better. But I do not think his condition is improving, just that he is better able to navigate the situation. He was walking around better this morning. But you can see he is still really disoriented and still experiencing the vertigo.
He ate a little bit this morning and drank water, but I have to hold the dish for him still he can't quite control his head. But he is still stumbling quite a bit. I noticed this morning he almost fell but he caught himself but started spinning in a circle so I had to grab him. Right now he is resting comfortably on his bed in the office next to me while I work.
We have a follow up vet visit tomorrow at 3pm. I hope that there is more they can do for him. I hate that he is going through this.
@robcee According to the vet there is no threat to his life but I hate that he is suffering and has no idea what is going on. I also do not want to wait on the Anti-biotics because in some cases there can be permanent disorientation. He's 13 years old. I don't want him to live the rest of his life dealing with this.
@trinsec Thank you, it has been rough. I am hoping we can get something sorted out soon, I hate seeing him like this.
Regarding #Rufus - The short version:
The last 24 hours have been extremely stressful. Rufus was at the emergency vet all day yesterday having tests done. He has been diagnosed with a vestibular disorder. What this means if there is something going on in his inner ear. He is basically experiencing vertigo so his whole world has been spinning for the last 24 hours. This has the effect of making it VERY difficult for him to walk or even stand. He is on Anti-nausea medication and the Emergency vet advised waiting 2-3 days to see if it resolves on it's own, and if not to set up a follow up with his regular vet to start him on a course of anti-biotics.
Right now Rufus is miserable. I was able to hand feed him last night, but he cannot eat on his own. I tried to get him to sleep and he would dose off be as soon as he opens his eyes and the room is spinning again - he panics. I called his vet this morning and am waiting on a call back to see if maybe we should start the anti-biotics sooner rather than let him suffer for 2-3 days.
I absolutely HATE that there is nothing I can do for him right now, it's killing me.
Video: You can see is eyes moving because for him the room is spinning.
