I am a researcher in cognitive and computational neuroscience at the CNRS and Paris Brain Institute in France.

I am interested in the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying #metacognition, #learning and #decision-making, which I investigate using carefully controlled behavioral experiments in tandem with computational modeling and neuroimaging, in healthy and patient populations.

I had an interesting conversation about goat meat economics today at MF Dulock, a butcher shop in Somerville.

There are a couple of reasons they rarely carry goat. One is simply the low demand. Another is that the people buying goat are usually less likely to care about where it came from—or possibly just that, again, the demand is low enough that this subpopulation of careful buyers is too small. But the big one is that people only want the stew meat!

It was J.R.R. #Tolkien himself, born #OnThisDay in 1892, who used "dwarves" instead of "dwarfs" in his runaway success, "The Hobbit." But it wasn't without controversy.

The editors at Allen and Unwin, Toklien's publisher, said the plural according to the Oxford English Dictionary should be "dwarfs." Tolkien retorted that he helped WRITE that dictionary and he could decide on his own plurals, thank you very much.

Here's another from the encounter, just before the eagle was lost from sight behind a rocky outcrop.

Last time I saw one as close as this, I forgot I was using a zoom lens. Thankfully this time I remembered, and gave the eagle a bit more room in the frame.

Today I found about Saint Guinefort. I’ve heard versions of saving the child and the resultant misunderstanding, just never knew he was considered a martyr and venerated for it.

Epitome of a good boy, the literal dog saint.

As said yesterday, we had to cut down our 40 years old dying #spruce tree. It was severely attacked by bark beetle (you can see the holes on the edge of whole trunk section, and the larvae on other photos), likely after being stressed and weakened by #heatwave and #drought in the past years. A probable effect of #climatechange, #climatecrisis.

It's from our garden very close to #Fontainebleau #forest, 60km south of Paris, France.

I'm not a #dendroclimatologist so I cannot interpret in detail the trunk section. But I will post hr photos in next toot for those more skilled.
