As awareness of the human impact on the environment grows, people seek ways to leave the Earth better than they found it. Today on #TheBigPicture, Team Takei's Amelia Mavis Christnot offers some insight and guidance on eco-friendly funeral and burial practices: thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p

@Neverfadingwood Today we struggled to open a jar of marmite, finally succeeded. This never happened with vegemite.

Our neighbors let us know that they're having a party tomorrow night and asked "please don't call the police" 😂😂😂😂😂 😬

I wonder how loud it's going to get? Might be a good night to stay up REALLY late playing video games 🤔

On 16th March, 1968 Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson Jnr was flying helicopter reconnaissance for an attack on an alleged North Vietnamese-controlled village at My Lai.

As the ground attack developed below, Thompson realised he was in fact witnessing something something else:

A massacre.

He decided to act. /1 🧵 #history #histodons

I see the liberals are trying to catch nazis in logical fallacies again as some way to triumph over them. Here's the thing: while it might feel good to go "ha! they can't even define what woke actually means!" the thing is that it doesn't matter to them

The right doesn't care if it lacks definitions or if it's hypocritical or even contradictory. "Woke" is just their dog whistle for "people we want to exterminate" that they can say without being perceived as "not being rude", something the liberal establishment seems to care more about than the underlying sentiment

Saying "you can't even define woke" is about as effective as saying "the president is not named Brandon". It doesn't matter. The important thing is that "let's go Brandon" gives them social cover that "fuck the president" doesn't

Stop asking nazis to define woke and start telling them that you know they want to commit genocide and you'll fight them

Despite being one of our most valuable ecosystems for people and #nature, wetlands are Earth’s most threatened ecosystem.

Reading the NASA Roadmap to Ocean Worlds (about Europa, Enceladus, Titan & other solar system bodies with oceans), and struck by the program aims: "and ultimately understand any life we find". It makes it sound the only point is to find life. But that's just not true - investigating our solar system helps us understand our own planet & context. It's entirely worth doing for its own sake! (although, we do have some urgent Earth problems we should probably prioritise). #Ocean #SolarSystem

@stuart @rysiek Autocorrect often tries to corrupt the words I use. English is not my native language, so if' there's any doubt I check things. I accidentally learn a lot of new things :) And I read my toots twice.

As of now, 256 wolves have been killed in Montana's controversial wolf hunt.

With snares, traps, and bait, people are killing these wolves for fun.

It's outrageous that in the 21st century, bloodlust continues to drive the wolf management policies in states like Montana, Idaho, & Wyoming.

Call on the US Interior to prioritize conservation over bloodsport by relisting wolves in the N. Rockies to protect them from this cruelty.

#birch are one of my favourite #Trees - resilient pioneers that make the soil they live in stronger for the next inhabitants. Humans could learn a lot from that modus operandi.

They don’t tend towards a chunky form but here’s a beautiful, solid old specimen for #ThickTrunkTuesday

@Sheril I remember my father flying with a box full of Acomys cahirinus, but that was decades ago. I'm sure there is a lot of great weird stories of scientists transporting their research subjects.

Anyone know Black #librarians looking for work? Asking for my partner, who would love to not be the last one standing at one of the main #libraries serving Black #Boston. #BlackMastodon #LibraryJobs #Jobs @librarians

@disappointed_idealist I solve technical problems for hundreds of people using our rural internet and knowing how to talk to them and glean crucial information (apparent cable intermittency – do you have a new puppy?) helps a lot. The best of two worlds.

I've learned that I'm good at a lot of things, but doesn't mean I'm interested in doing it.

I've been customer facing my whole career because I'm "good with people".

No I'm not, I just know how to fake it and people please.

What I'm interested and enjoy is solving problems and making things work.

Time for a change.

@canyakker She learned she'd get snacks for jumping up on trees and she jumps on anything that sticks a bit above the ground and asks for a treat. qoto.org/@szescstopni/10985876
