Leavitt changed astronomy. She figured out new ways to measure a star’s distance from Earth & her work helped determine the universe is expanding.

Her boss, Edward Pickering, published her findings UNDER HIS NAME. Later, Shapley used her findings to determine distances around the Milky Way w/o credit.

Leavitt’s work is still used today. So next time you hear about famous men in #science share her remarkable story.

Das Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum für solch ein antrainiertes Wissen ist spätestens mit dem nächsten Update der Bedienoberfläche überschritten und muss anschließend neu erlernt werden. Digitale Bildung bzw. das Erlernen von Medienkompetenz geht ganz klar anders.

How to plant marigolds.

1. Start with 2 lge planters. Mine are 75x35cm.

2. Remove cat from 1st planter. Fill planter with soil. Repeat for 2nd.

3. Thoroughly water soil. Sooth wet, indignant cat.

5. Remove cat; press holes in soil about 20cm apart, 1/2 finger deep.

6. Divide # seeds by # holes. Remove cat from planters and add quotient (up to ~3 seeds) to each hole, pushing soil in on top as you go.

7. Seeds sprout in 7-10 days, except where the cat sleeps.

But female scientist Eunice Foote published a paper - 3 years earlier - demonstrating how atmospheric water vapor & CO2 affected solar heating. She theorized that heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere warm its #climate.
