@design_RG Maybe ActivityPub+IPFS, or Scuttlebutt+Zigbee lol.
@StoneLi @freemo @olamundo @design_RG @QOTO I've actually been curious as to how censorship proof ActivityPub / the Fediverse is. Maybe it could bring about something new in China and similar countries.

> it also means I'm in a fedi-echo chamber of sorts. Kinda defeats the point of the fedi.
I disagree. imo, the Fediverse is about user freedom. Your blockers *chose* to block you, and their instance's users entrusted their admins to block you. That's their freedom to do so.
People complain about a fractured Fediverse like its a problem, but that's how the real world works. I argue that this is a good and natural thing. Besides, people can explore and make alt accounts, something not possible with centralised birdsite.
@tedu It's always a careful play. Without a doubt, they understand this well. They understand the Streisand effect, but they also control the platform, what surfaces, what people see etc.
So my educated guess is they estimate how effective a ban would be. I wouldn't be surprised if they use ML/AI or something. They already do for curating interests.
Besides, they have a plethora of methods to censor. Shadowbanning, non-chronological manipulated timelines, priming, psychological warning info boxes, link bans, topic bans, temporary bans, intentionally ambiguous ToS.
@sir https://pleroma.social ? It optionally comes with the Mastodon web client, and it's specs seem way less bloat.
@vim
I wish vim-plug's windows could be floating popups. If someone figures this out, let me know please.

I thought about trying neovim because apparently you can replace GUI text boxes (like in your browser) with a neovim instance. I’m not compelled to try it out soon though. Vim’s ubiquity is a great reason for me to stay.

I can't remember some of my other ideas, so for now I vote for "fully private groups", which sounds great.

Just read through the spec. I love it's simplicity and minimalism. I embrace something like this.
The kineto proxy is especially enjoyable to browse on mobile.

There will always be spirited netizens who treat their websites like a canvas with CSS as their paint, but I can see a niche where minimalist Gemini fits snugly. More please.
If and when I run my own server, I'll be sure announce gemini://torresjrjr.com
@freemo
When I was 16, our local newspaper came to our school to interview us newly graduated students. We answered some quick questions and never gave it a second thought.
The next+ day, my friend got a hold of the newspaper, and sure enough, there was a dedicated section about us. It even featured my friends name. He began to read, but realised something was off. There were quotes he never uttered. "I... never said that... wtf".
A small newspaper made up quotes supposedly by us, just to fill a blank square. From that day on, my trust in the media and even history has only gone far down. If I hear something, I always just give it a day.
🎃Happy Halloween!
I wanted to speedpaint this evening the Spritely Family, their design feels halloweeny to me. 🙂 https://spritelyproject.org/

@digital_carver @vim I always make portability a principle for most things, especially with vim since I frequently git clone my vimrc onto foreign machines. So OS level mods are out of the question for me.
