I stand by what I have said in the past:
Don't boost simplistic and divisive political memes. Hold your judgement until there's enough evidence. Presume innocence. What you stumble upon on the web isn't trustworthy by default.
And still…

It feels nice seeing so many familiar faces joining #Mastodon (or coming back to it after having paid little attention in the past)!
I have been using Mastodon since 2017 and it makes me happy how many people are here now. That vastly increases its usefulness for me (as someone who works on his own).
Given that Mastodon’s protocols are open, that user base will never be fragmented because people can easily move to other apps and services (as long as they support these protocols).

Beautiful blog post reviewing the cognitive capacity of multiple animal species. Their work focuses on #animalwelfare and #cognition. #cognitivescience #behavior #physiology

Oh — and by sheer coincidence, I see that was my toot number 2,000 — exactly! (counting the two instances I've used).
My posting frequency has been one toot a day, almost exactly too. (I'm happy with that pace: not too much, not too little. I surely hope not to bore my followers.)
5½ years on #Mastodon, and still loving it
I'm thinking of donating to a few services, products and organisations that I use and respect, and that I think are doing a lot of good. (That on top of my yearly 10% #EffectiveAltruism donation and the tiny contributions that I do every month through #BraveBrowser.)
I'm making a little list of beneficiaries. My idea is to throw ~1m₿ to each project, or the equivalent in fiat.
I'll share the list soon. There are some obvious entries (eg, Wikimedia Foundation, F-Droid, Mastodon), but if you want to suggest something specific, I'm all ears!
It's official... #mastodon has now over 6 million registered accounts.
Congratulations @Gargon and the whole crew working on the code, congratulations to all admins who tirelessly help building this amazing network and congratulations to all new users.
Let's make sure they stay active by supporting them!
Oh and by the way if you want to support Eugen... please consider a donation 👉 https://www.patreon.com/mastodon
New to #Mastodon? (Welcome!) Here's how to follow a #Twitter account from here:
1. Enter the Twitter handle (say `foobar`) on [`beta.birdsite.live`](https://beta.birdsite.live/) (pro tip: better to [host your own instance](https://github.com/NicolasConstant/BirdsiteLive)!)
1. Copy the resulting (pseudo) user ID (it'll be `@foobar@beta.birdsite.live`)
1. _Search_ for that ID on your Mastodon UI, and you'll see the new (pseudo) Mastodon account
1. Now you can follow it!
You won't be able to boost those toots, and your replies won't reach that user (since they're not actually on Mastodon). But at least you'll see their (Twitter) content on your timeline, and you can favourite, add to your lists, bookmark, etc.
#ContentModeration: IT'S COMPLICATED.
(And that's why smaller, independent, decentralised servers — like those running #Mastodon — have a much better chance at striking the right balance and keeping their users happy!)
It's amazing that we're not amazed by those instances of #GammaBias. What the hell are they thinking?

Did you know that the European Union had an official Mastodon instance where only official EU institutions could open an account?

No need to pay for a blue checkmark, accounts on this instance are, by definition, officials.
That’s Fediverse done right!
The #OECD's “Better Life Index” seems to correlate (even) better than #GDP with subjective well-being:

My own country 🇪🇸 #Spain ranks no. 21 in BLI:
https://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/countries/spain/
I'd love to see it used more widely, and more work on this and other metrics of #wellbeing and #happiness.
