Sussman thought of programming as being an expressive medium like poetry, prose... reminiscent of Larry Wall's linguistic inspiration for Perl. Scheme is arguably a better-designed thing, though... @reClojure

Only 30 minutes to go before the closing keynote for re:Clojure 2021 by Gerald Jay Sussman. Live stream here: youtube.com/watch?v=8q8110rRTC. Hope to see you there! .

Between whatever Markus Kloimwieder's cljtiles and @ella_hoeppner Vlojure, we have some absolutely excellent learning tools at our finger-tips. I think I will use these for myself to master linear algebra. Can I wrap Neanderthal? @reClojure

"Turn to Matlab or Python for solving differentials? How about solving them in ?" The elevator pitch I've been waiting for! @reClojure @Tovieye And it can output LaTeX, too! github.com/sicmutils/sicmutils

Brilliant talks from @quoll and @ericnormand. Thank you both! Next up, we have Ashima Panjwani talking about github.com/scicloj/viz.clj, a data visualization library, followed by @metasoarous talking about github.com/compdemocracy/polis.

"Hey, he's using the same example from a book I've been reading!" Oh, wait... he wrote that book manning.com/books/grokking-sim @ericnormand @reClojure

👀 on @quoll discussing datalog vs sql, a topic I've thought much about @reClojure

Following on from today's lunchtime break, we will have @quoll focusing on Datalog (14:00 UTC), then after that we have @ericnormand on the Art of Domain Modelling (14:30 UTC).

"DON'T PROFILE or BENCHMARK at the beginning. Build your application!" soothes the performance paranoia. Thanks @BSless! @reClojure

Discussion of discrete vs continuous systems and the exciting possibilites of github.com/leonoel/missionary is really resonating with my research interests in narrative systems! @36Rleonoel @reClojure

fascinated by his presentation method -- it looks like slides, but then we see highlighting of the code sections he's talking about. @36Rleonoel @reClojure

For a moment I thought one of the benefits of is that you don't often need to think about optimizing algorithmic performance. True, but you now need to think about optimizing package size, CDNs, and browsers compatibility, load-time. Trade performance heatmaps for user clickmaps.

Hearing talks about optimization lead me to feeling like I just watched the Truman Show -- suddenly I'm suspicious of everything. @reClojure

Can decentralization, a major concept in internet today, be translated into socio-political terms? Or is the notion of "government" both necessary and antithetical to decentralization on a political scale? Isn't democracy a step toward decentralization?
