@angusm @pluralistic so in the physical world, fungi prevent the literal enshittification of everything. Where are the fungi of techno-finance?
I am not in the BioScience / Life Science area. However Scismic are a talent matching company who work in lifesciences, they do some really good webinars on finding jobs in this and related sectors.
In the meantime will boost for reach, hope you find the right person.
So far the argument in Westminster is this bill will interfere with the equality laws, but that is it. So very little attempt to back that up with examples, evidence etc.
The equality act is dated 2010, surely it is time for that to be updated to reflect live in 2023. 13 years is a LONG time.
"I’m tired of my identity being used as a political football. While the bill will have no effect on most of the population, it will make the lives of trans people like me that little bit easier."

I don't but others seem to be. I prefer to be able to listen to the sounds of my environment, the sound of birds is great for example.
@hauntedhideaway no one understands this and that is because they imagine that they would simply “do the right thing” and take any amount of punishment.
@jillrhudy Yeah. I could end up unemployable in my field. And with a record, could I even get a job at Taco Bell after that?
I like the wording here "allegedly sexually explicit books from shelves?" so that implies the policy to remove books is not actually based on actual evidence, just someome saying these books are sexually explicit without actually providing evidence to back that up, or evidence that can be challenged with counter viewpoints again backed by evidence.
As a library you are a place where people can read, learn and develop, you can't make judgements without looking at different narratives and forming a conclusion. That conclusion doesn't have to take one side or the other, you conclusion can be depends on the situation and context for example.

Not all policies work in every area, I feel the solution to that is to find out where a policy works and focus on the areas where it will work, then look at what may work in other areas and do the same.
The zero-fare public transit movement is picking up momentum
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/14/zero-fare-public-transit-movement-gains-momentum.html
"The “zero-fare” movement has garnered support among business groups, environmental advocates, Democratic leaders and others who say that public transit boosts local economies, mitigates climate change and is a basic necessity for many individuals. … But … it has drawn political pushback in some areas where the policy doesn’t easily fit in with budgets or local laws."
This will just keep happening, as politicians are never the ones whos kids are slaughtered.
Pioneering Apple Lisa goes “open source” thanks to Computer History Museum
"As part of the Apple Lisa's 40th birthday celebrations, the Computer History Museum has released the source code for Lisa OS version 3.1 under an Apple Academic License Agreement. With Apple's blessing, the Pascal source code is available for download"
There was an article in the Daily mirror years ago, I think the front page was how the police / authorities had lost track of over 1000 paedophiles. Going through the paper there was a picture from Kirachi (sorry about spelling) a man knelt down, with a soldier, pointing a gun at the top of his head. The man had raped an 11 year old boy.
One way of ensuring there is no reoffending that.
I did an electrical course at college years ago, we were told to put faulty electrical kit of of action properly, even if this meant smashing it with a hammer, once smashed there is no way it can be plugged in and electrocute someone.
