@FritzAdalis - You joke, but the Free and Open Source Software maintainer of xz was experiencing heavy burnout without any support. No team, not money, no time off.
That created a vulnerability that Jian Tan (et al) exploited and allowed Jian to take over the project.
And this is not uncommon. Corporations exploit and take FOSS and use it to make money without paying back into it.
Classic capitalistic extraction without regard to hidden costs.
So. Yeah. You can blame capitalism for this, lol! 😂

ugh.
Emailed my professional mentor last week wishing him a happy bday and saying I’d like to stop by and say hi when I’m back east this month for the eclipse He got back to me saying he’s in poor health and probably only has about another 18 months. He has no energy and declined my offer for a visit.
I’m trying to get in touch with one of his daughters that I know. I’d like to stop by and shake his hand one last time.
Can’t say enough about him. On my all-star team, he's the player/manager shortstop.
Life, man.
No problem

"Even though AI will alter the way authors compile data and rapidly communicate new results, we anticipate that many researchers will still want to present a ‘story’ that conveys their insights and interpretations of their findings. The value of a narrative to communicate important science is here to stay."

Librarian hands it to me to read (it is a year 1571 italian translation of the original spanish of Hernando Columbo) in Biblioteca Angelica in Rome.
Love libraries. Don't let megapublishers kill them by strangulation with licensing. Easy solution: #selldontsue.

“Israel's military has pulled out of al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City after a two-week raid that has left most of the major medical complex in ruins. An IDF spokesman referred to the operation as "one of the most successful of the war so far".” Says it all really. #Israel #Palestine #Gaza
Damn. We were supposed to go camping and kayaking in Waterton last year but our car died. We just booked camping nearby with plans to drive in and kayak but it looks like we’ll have to come up with another plan.
