@zleap Yeah, free software are great to have, but without a strong commercial support and fairly good management, it's really hard to support serious usages. You can't hope for some editors to know how to properly submit a GitHub issue. I emotionally support those software, I use GIMP some times, but I do prefer some paid software that I can yell at them when something goes wrong because I paid for that. And by "yell at them", I don't mean physically, I can report the problem, let them figure it out, and I can actively keep asking them when I can get the fix. With free and opensource software, nobody should bear this burden, and thus the user can't expect a proper "growth" for the software.

Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday night, in the Islamic Republic’s first ever direct attack on the Jewish state.

Through its mission at the UN, Iran declared the mass aerial attack, which Tehran dubbed “Operation True Promise” was a retaliation for the bombing of an Iranian diplomatic building in Damascus on 1 April, and that it now considered the matter closed, unless there was further action by Israel.

I'd love to see more people writing new software for any Psion kit, but especially the 16-bit machines.

I think there are a few reasons why people don't do it already:

1. "Why would I bother? What's the point? Other platforms are more useful/interesting/fun."
2. "It's really awkward to get started with the tools and docs available."
3. "I don't have access to any hardware."

I do my best on here and at events to deal with 1, and I'm working on 2. For 3, you can get around this now with MAME.

Just a pre-warning: don’t celebrate Iran’s attack on Israel. I know we’re all mighty mad at Israel but be for peace.

Germany, 1930's: We hate Jews, they are part of an international conspiracy that includes Jewish British bankers and Jewish Russian Bolsheviks. We have to expel them, or even better, carry out the final solution.

Germany, 2024: We love Jews. That's why we give a blank check to Israel and provide it with about half its weapons. We don't care about legal cases on genocide, we will support Israel no mater what. And if you don't like it you're an antisemite, and that includes anti-zionist Jews.

Berlin police raided and cut off electricity to the Palestinian Congress conference before banning the three-day event. Organizers say Germany’s antidemocratic authoritarian response to Palestine activism is growing by the day.

54 years ago, at 10:06 PM EST, Monday, April 13, 1970, the Apollo 13 Mission Control heard these fateful words "Houston, we've had a problem here."

055:55:19 Lovell: ...Houston...
055:55:20 Swigert: ...we've had a problem here.

055:55:26 Fenner (GUIDO): FLIGHT, GUIDANCE.
055:55:27 Kranz (FLIGHT): Go GUIDANCE.

055:55:28 Lousma: This is Houston. Say again, please.

After 4 days of hardships, heroism, improvisations and ingenuity, the crew landed safely on Earth.

@pvonhellermannn @zleap It's much older than that. It's just from Latin for a stranger, a foreigner, or something "other".

en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/alien

"Space alien" is from the 1920s. But that wasn't really a new meaning - it's just like "space foreigner". More recently we started thinking of it as a synonym for "extraterrestrial."

But my point is, it would have been just a normal word when the acts were created, in various languages inheriting from Latin.

Al Shifa Massacre reporting - Very disturbing details

Warning: This article is an excruciating, horrifying read, but it is our duty to bear witness to remember the horrors of the Zionist entity.

The massacre at Al Shifa Hospital alone should be enough to justify dismantling the entire power structure of colonial settler project of Israel. Yet it is only one event in half a year of horrific violence and disregard for basic humanity.

@fcktheworld587 @Vincarsi @QasimRashid I don’t doubt that some attitudes can be mapped onto generational demographics. I just think that cultivating resentments between “generations” distracts from the true sources of (and responsibilities for) gross inequality, and so distracts from ways to address it.

Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Kushner: none of these guys are “Boomers”, but surely love it when we get so twisted about how the old folk have screwed us over & forget about taxes.

Despite its claim that the goal of the war in Gaza is the elimination of Hamas, Israel's actions reveal its true intention: the collapse of Palestinian society

Oh shit, y'all! Millennials/Gen Z are irresponsibly wasting money on food that we have to prepare for ourselves! Back in the day when America was great, folks photosynthesized. Like NORMAL people. And they LIKED it.

I heard that, in addition to murdering both the guest room and napkins, Gen Z and Millenials are blowing our food budgets on VEGETABLES just to avoid RICKETS. What a bunch of entitled little profligates!

I'm so mad I hardly have time to finish fracking directly beneath my own tent city.

Also who the fuck is Lakshmi Varanasi? Got educated at Yale AND Stanford, so you know she's in touch

Does your public library use on Overdrive/Libby for ebooks or audiobooks? ⚠️

In the US and Canada, the answer is probably yes. And you might want to speak to your library staff and commission about it.

Libby is now owned by a private equity firm & making sketchy changes: buttondown.email/ninelives/arc

The latest development is that their overbroad privacy policy allows them to sell your borrowing history to advertisers: infosec.exchange/@longobord/11

Thank you @karawynn and @longobord!
