@wattdefalk @wattdefalk @zleap @stux there have been trillions of dollars invested in graphene oxide and medical and security and all manner of 'future think' applications, but a great number of people dont want to live in a robocop world and are quietly hoping it all goes away..

yes everyone has strengths and weaknesses. :)

I will get a great amount of pleasure if I see the mastodon project sue trump, make a bunch of money, get him to shut down his server, and then use that money to improve the network/project.

I have to say, it's pretty great how: A) The Fediverse is quick to block Trump's fork and instance of Mastodon that violates the AGPL3 licensing B)...

IOP Publishing (IOPP) has joined the Initiative for Open Abstracts
<i4oa.org> (I4OA), a collaboration between publishers, infrastructure
organisations, librarians, and researchers to promote the open availability of
abstracts.

IOPP will deposit abstracts of their scholarly communications with Crossref
<crossref.org>, the not-for-profit Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
registration agency bringing together abstracts in a common format in one
searchable cross-disciplinary database.

By joining the initiative, IOPP will make all of its abstracts part of the
fundamental metadata of the article so that they will be openly available and
accessible to the scientific community for unrestricted machine reading. This
expanded availability of article abstracts will boost the discoverability of
scholarly research and increase their impact.

Daniel Keirs, IOPP’s Head of Journal Strategy and Performance, says: “We are
excited to be joining the I4OA initiative as it supports our goal of increasing
access to research in the disciplines we represent. We believe that I4OA will
help to enhance the impact, recognition and value of our researchers’ scholarly
publications through the unlimited, centralised discoverability the initiative
enables.”

Ludo Waltman, Coordinator of I4OA, says: “We are pleased to have IOPP join our
initiative. Having IOPP join a growing number of academic publishers shows their
continued commitment to open science to expand the world of physics. As one of
the largest publishers supporting I4OA, it’s great to have IOPP on board and we
hope that many other publishers will follow their lead”

@freemo My other project is a Potentiometer board

I made this as pushing potentiometers in to breadboards can make the holes too big, however with the headers I can attach leads from a multi meter (you can get some that can clip on to headers) which is handy, this one has 1k 10k and soon 5k,

Orange Light Emitting Diodes have now arrived. I can now complete my module that helps to determine Planck's Constant. However before i fire up my soldering iron for this, I am waiting for some 5k potentiometers which I need to complete my little potentiometer board. So may as well solder everything up at the same time.

Also just let them know my feelings on Twitter.
@eff @info_activism may want to get in touch with them to educate them on privacy. Before they brainwash more people in to using facecrap, google and others.

Get online week is underway, this is a initiative i n the UK to get people online.

However looking at their e-mail they employ tracking so clearly privacy is not in their vocabulary.

@stux

Well, looks like it is time for the FSF to do the main thing it is charity money is used for, suing companies that cross them.

Trumps "social" network is probably violating at least one FLOSS license.

Mastodon is licensed AGPL so any source code modifications must be made available under the AGPL. Proprietary source code modifications that are kept from the public are a big no-no.

@zleap I was thinking the same, but not sure we need his followers on here :fediverse::blobcatscared:

Mastodon's Founder Says Trump's New Social Network Is Just Mastodon

'Truth Social', which will launch officially later in the year, is seemingly using Mastodon's codebase without credit.

Former President Donald Trump’s new social network ’Truth Social’ is seemingly a thinly disguised fork of popular social network codebase Mastodon.

Its terms also say that “all source code” of Truth Social is proprietary. That might run afoul of Mastodon’s own license.

“The main thing is that Mastodon is free software, released under the AGPLv3 license, so anyone can use it—provided they comply with the license. The main part of the license is making the source code and any modifications to it available to the public,” Rochko told Motherboard. With Truth Social saying that its code is proprietary “that would be a problem, as that would indicate a license violation,” Rochko added.
