Are you a researcher? If so, I'd be eternally grateful if you would consider completing this questionnaire about PIDs. It doesn't matter if you know or don't know what PIDs are because all views are equally important in this work! :-) strath.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/fo #research #academia #PhD #scholcomm

I've seen four nestlings now, all fallen from the nest. one was dead when I got home. second had trouble staying in the nest so i made a makeshift nest out of a sock (not sure if that's ok). third, i think, was pushing number two out of the nest--seems unfazed and just wants fed now it's back. last I basically rolled into the nest. wasn't dead but pretty weak-looking.

parents are still around so I reckon at least the lively one I put back in the original nest can survive. dunno about the other two, but I'm pulling for em.

I was really depressed for the last two days because I left my ring on the lawn and the crows stole it BC shiny. It's irreplaceable and Akkas gave it to me two years ago so I was devastated. I dredged the pond and used a metal detector all over the lawn but it was gone. But today I cooked the crows bacon in the morning and this afternoon it was returned RIGHT WHERE I LEFT THE BACON!!!!!

@godtierchaoticgay crows: strange and mercurial spirits that like bacon apparently

I mean, take a look at some of these close-ups. Tons of potential targets for study. Paradise for rock nerds like myself.

From earlier, distant views, my team nicknamed this area “the bacon strip.” (My overhead map shows why.) Now that I’m up on top, we’re calling it “Hogwallow Flats” – and the nearby rocks are a sight to behold. My team is happy as pigs in mud(stone)!

all the rhetoric in the United States on energy use is about adding more. not a single prominent voice is even suggesting that we use less... this isn't a strictly negative position: we can find greater efficiency

When you're in a dystopic society but you're just resigned to it, that's Ohwellian.

@lucifargundam
I was wondering if there was something like this. do you have a link or the account name?

I think a bot would be cool, but my goal was to adjust things in a way that I'm not nearly skilled enough to code up, plus the fun for me is the live interaction. a bot would be good for letting individual players have their own experience, though the fun of the medium is what we do in conversation with each other... maybe there's a way to combine these elements in a fun way... maybe just role play?

@trinsec

last thing to both of you: the poll ending does provide a notification, but I guess you wouldn't see the next post depending on when I finish it. do you think being sure to have the next one ready when the poll expires would be very useful or would just slowing the pace take care of it?

thanks!

@lucifargundam @trinsec good to know. I'm surprised y'all say it was too fast, since I actually thought it would be the opposite: is there a rate you think would be better? weekly? every three days? weekends only?

the free entry thing felt a bit dodgy. I still like the idea, but maybe it would be better later in the story as an outlet for taking a poke at some theories or to check in on some side characters? basically, where there's more background so you know what's an interesting question to ask.

Since I received zero replies, I'll assume there is no more interest, so I'll conclude the game. thanks if you followed up to this point.

I started this on a whim, and didn't know where it was going initially. I have more of a plan now, but I think I'll try for next time.

if you did "play", or even if you were just watching, I'd appreciate feedback. thanks!

@cheribaker omniscient narrators are really annoying sometimes because it is too easy to be lazy and not let the actions of your characters reveal their motivations and knowledge, but to just say something like "she thought he was lying so she hid the location of the second artefact" rather than establishing that there are two artefacts and having the character only reveal one. it's more interesting because then I get that little dopamine hit for noticing the connections and discrepancy.

fun video game mechanic: open a door and a monster jumps out that you can kill with one hit, but as soon as you do another mister jumps out that's tougher. kill the second monster and an even stronger one follows. only way to end the cycle is to leave the area or use a special skill that permanently stops or removes the monster without killing it. In my dream, where this comes from, it was called "hide" but it could be "banish", "petrify", or even "tame".

I'm currently researching feminist hacker groups around the world for an episode for the podcast of the german hacker group @haecksenC. First research has proven a little difficult, so maybe you people on mastodon could help me out: Do you know feminist hacker groups in non german speaking countries? Do you know someone who does? please boost! :boost_ok:
